I'm about to buy a new GCN. I've got a PS2 and XBox also and I'm trying to decide whether to get the black or silver system. I'm also going to replace the LED on the top. I'm thinking red for the black GCN or blue for the silver, but the led colors aren't set in stone. Here's why I'm having a hard time deciding: Most accessories for GCN are black, and I want them to match. It would really suck if I had a silver controller and it broke as I would have a hard time finding one to match. I also have the GBPlayer and I'm not sure it would look good under the silver Cube. I also want my systems to look good sitting next to each other. GCN is gonna stand out no matter what because of the white controller ports on the front. So I'm leaning toward silver because of that, but every other piece of electronic equipment I have is black. So taking into account all of these things, what would you go with?

Jet Black makes the gamecube look really cheap. The cheap plastic look really stands out for this color for some reason. Go with platinum.

I've had both and was just going to say the opposite. The platinum edition looks NOTHING like it does in photos. I think the Indigo or black are way preferable if "cheapness" is to be avoided. If you're going to mod the hell out of it probably other factors are in play.

Platinum Cube + Black GBPlayer + Black Memory Card = very nice looking setup!!

I used to have the Indigo system, but when my extended warranty was almost up, I tried to get another Indigo, but they didn't have them, so I went with Platinum.

Don't worry about the Platinum controllers, as they'll be selling them seperately about the same time that RE4 releases.

Indigo > Platinum > Jet Black. :)

Opinions?

A - 'It sucks'
B - 'It rocks'
A - 'Both!'
B - 'Neither!'
A&B - 'FUCK YOU!'

Ok, seriously.

Okay, I got a Platinum and put the blue LED in it. The blue LED looks so much better than orange. It's very easy to do and costs less than $5 if you have a soldering iron and some solder. I already have an Indigo btw and put a green light in it this morning. I'm thinking it's just become my experiment Cube.

This has been my setup since last year:

Platinum Cube + Silver Game Boy Player (imported) + Blue LED = sexy

I'm slowly converting all my Wavebirds into platinum ones as well.

I would like to put some leds in the controller ports and fan as well. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm new to modding so I need some help on what type of resistors to use and where to solder them. Here's some examples of what I would like to do

I'd go with platinum. It may not match your other audio components, but it just is the best looking GCN, and given the GCN's odd shape anyway, I'd say its OK if it stands out a bit.

I already got a Platinum GC and put a blue LED in it. I would like to do more to my Indigo GC though. I want to paint it, but first I need to know how to put the controller port and fan leds in there. Does anyone know what type of resistors to use and where the solder points are?

P.S. Mods can you please change the thread title to "Gamecube LED Modification"

Is there a good site for doing Gamecube modding yourself? I hear there's an easy switch mod (for import games). Sorry to hijack your thread for a second. Maybe you know?
