That's pretty damn sweet.

Let me give an AMD version a try.

$78 (sometimes newegg has it with free shipping, making it it around $60)

$13

13-152-049-02.JPG

$134

19-103-463-03.JPG

$275

20-146-299-03.JPG

$135

22-135-106-06.JPG

$67

27-106-962-01.JPG

$67

14-127-147-08.JPG

$194

Total: $963 with shipping and tax if you don't live in CA and couple other states that I can't remember right this minute.

Don't listen to anyone who gabs about the power supply being too small. Seeing how element's SFF case only runs 250W, 350W Smart Power from Antec is more than fine.

I'm researching tomorow and buying a PC on Sunday...gonna use it for my Half Life 2 MOD development, so the timing of this thread (and the particular question LAMBO asked about it being used for HL2) is perfect. :)

I'm spending $1000 Cdn btw, which is $832 US. I already have bought a 200 Gb WD HDD and Win XP Pro (and a wireless optical mouse...I know...wireless is not the way to go when it comes to playing games, but I'm using this more for coding and 3D modelling). I'll need a monitor too.

I'm looking at getting an Athlon 64 rather than a P4. Looking at a 3000+ because right now it looks like the best price/power ratio. Do I need anything besides the stock heat sink/fan?

How about getting a 9600, is that a bad idea? I just need something so I can start making content...and I don't need the latest and greatest yet. Should I look at getting an MB with PCIE? I do plan to up the videocard every year.

I'll just post what I was looking at:

Athlon 64 300+ sock939 = 189.95
Zalman CPU heatsink and fan combo (I think) = 37.95
Arctic Silver Thermal Compound (don't know if I really need this) = 9.99
Asus A8V MB (supports PC3200, only got 8X AGP) = 179.95
Elite Case (350W, 2 fans included I think) = 84.95
Lite-On DVD Burner 16x8 dual layer = 79.95
Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 256MB w/DVI and tv out = 149.95

That's $732...$784 after tax.

*slaps forehead*...forgot RAM :p

I would go with mine or shogo's. both have the power and price you are looking for.

I personally would go witht he SFF case, because they are sweet :D But you could probably make the full size case quieter then the SFF case I suggested with a high quality heat sink and stealth fans.

well it has support for 4 IDE devices, and 4 SATA devices.

It could probably support the CDRW, DVDR, and the two HDD. Probably not the 5th, even if it was SATA.
