I've been using a CD writer all along, but I've been dealing with increasing amounts of large data lately so CDs just aren't cutting it any more. The problem is I never looked into DVD burners because they were fairly expensive at the time. Now that I've started to look at them, they seem fairly more complicated than CD writers. Between all the +/-, the RWs and the DVD+R, etc, I'm lost and it's making my head spin.

I just need something for storing files(wether they be mp3s, video, text, or whatever) and maybe the occasional DVD backup(My copy of Drunken Master has been running choppy around the last 15mins of the film), but mostly for storing files. I don't really plan on changing the data once it's burned, but if re-writeable DVDs have read/write speeds that are as fast as plan permanent writeable DVDs, I wouldn't mind the capability.

I'll most likely buy from newegg so feel free to link to there if you want.

BTW: What are DVD-RAMs? Never heard of em' before.
