Ok I decided to get xbox live just for Halo 2. So I bought my self a linksys router and conncected everything, and its not working. I get this message on my Xbox..."The DNS servers could not be reached" . And me not being a computer person, I dont know what to do.

Can anyone help me out here? Any help would be appreciated.

Try connecting the Xbox straight to your broadband modem. If that works, it'll let you know your Xbox settings are right. Just need to fuck with the router.

Mark...I just tried it and it gave me the same thing. DNS numbers couldnt be detected, to asign them. How do I get these numbers?

hook the modem straight into the xbox.

turn the xbox off and unplug the power from the modem. wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. once the modem goes back online then turn the xbox back on. see if that works.

On your computer (assuming you're in Windows), click Start > Settings > Network and Dialup Connections > [insert your 'Net connection--usually "Local Area Connection"]

Click the Properties button, and then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click another Properties button. It should show you your settings for IP and DNS. Mimic these settings in your Xbox Live setup.
