alright. so i dont have much money to spend . ive been looking at tiger direct and i was wondering if these were decent deals:

Asus A7V600-X Barebone Kit / AMD XP 2900+ / 512MB PC3200 DDR / CPU Fan / ATX Mid Tower Case with 350 Watt PS / Keyboard / Mouse

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...details.asp?EdpNo=1384806&Sku=SYX-BB-988835 A

or

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Barebone Kit / AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 512MB DDR PC3200 / CPU Fan / ATX Mid-Tower Case with 350 Watt PS / Keyboard / Mouse

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...details.asp?EdpNo=1384809&Sku=SYX-BB-988834 A

by barebones, i assume i just get the parts and have to build it myself. right? the only thing that i see missing from the internals is the harddrive, graphics card, cd/dvd-rom, sound card and possibly a floppy drive. anything else i need?

is tigerdirect a decent place to buy from?

how are their refurbished pc ?

eMachines T5026 Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz / 512MB DDR / 160GB HDD / DVD±RW / CD-ROM / Flash Media Reader / Intel Graphics Accelerator 900 / 10/100Mbps LAN / Windows XP Home / Refurbished Desktop PC

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1239071&Sku=E400-T5026

?

my budget isnt too high. max 500$ if anyone can find a better way to spend that money, i would really appreciate the help.

whats wrong with tigerdirect? shoddy parts? bad service? never getting what you ordered?

what other websites do you recommend? newegg? also, what about my questions up there? anyone have answers?

Tigerdirect is a joke, you are taking your chances ordering from them. Either go with newegg, zipzoomfly, or monarch computer. Always look at resellerratings.com to check on a online vendor's rep before purchasing :p

Zipzoomfly is solid. Monarch is pretty good. Newegg is always good, but have been slipping a bit the last year or so. And their LCD dead pixel policy sucks fucking dick. 8 dead pixels my ass.

Yeah, I won't buy any lcd product from newegg. Usually do it locally so I can return it easily if I find dead pixels in the center of the screen or something.

I glanced at that last link you listed. FX5200 is a bad video card. Don't expect to play anything recent more than 15 fps.

In fact, that whole setup doesn't make any sense. AMD 64 3200+ with Corsair XMS...and an FX5200 and onboard sound. That's a classic big mac and diet coke example for the PC world.

Ditch the corsair XMS, get value Corsiar, and pump the extra money into a 6600 GT and an Audigy 2 ZS. Some people don't know how to build a balanced PC.

jesus. that link originally had the price of $650. now its at $959..

and i dont think they let you customize the system.

anyway, ive been looking monarch and im trying to have them build me a pc.

what do you think:: $654.00

Good. Nice price too. Get 1GB of memory if you want Battlefield 2 or other very recent, very demanding PC games.

Also, I would take the time to look into hard drives, since you have plenty of choice there. I don't know much about them, but some last longer and make less noise.

fart: dont worry. already dropped them.

thanks. i like seagate a whole lot. i think i might stick with them for now. :)

so between the motherboards offered on the site. which should i choose? they are all similarly priced, so thats no problem.

by the way, have i mentioned how much i love you guys?

it is from newegg. you would have to put it together though.

If you send me a PM with your email, I can email you the cart with all the items in it.

woops, i think i sent the cart twice.

i take it your comfortable building your own machine?

I recently did a parts list for a friend and he was like 'i dont know how to do this...'

Particle Physicist

between a quark and a baryon
ive never built a whole machine from scratch but tve taken apart machines and replaced parts like harddrives, cd-roms, ram, video cards sound cards, etc.

the only issue i may have is attaching the cpu to the mobo.

i take it i should get some thermal gel and apply that uniformly on the underside of the cpu?

The CPU will have instructions on how to do it all. As does the Mobo manual.

here is a picture. The CPU is already seated on the mobo. so you just apply some to the top of the chip and then put the heatsink on it.

when you get your stuff, I'm sure any one here would be more then happy to help if you have questions on what to do.

Good Luck :D

It is like a computer buying spree recently! I just bought a new PSU for the AMD deal that I'm picking up next week. I also bought a new monitor :D

DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD

you need a 20 to 24 plug. If you have a computer store in your area, you can pick one up for like $5. That sucks the mobo or case didn't come with one. I feel bad for not thinking about :( I'm checking the manual right now to see if it is ok to use a 20 Pin connection.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812201001

i noticed the power supply has a sticker that says pentium 4 ready.. but it shouldnt matter. right ??
If you got the case on the list above, you should be fine.

Particle Physicist

ooh. more questions. what is

CPU, SATA, PCIE spread spectrum and should i enable any of them.. also, any downside to making the BIOS cacheable?

the questions are late, i know, but after i installed the cpu i had to run..

:)
