Got a problem, I have someone i work with claiming that Master Chief isn't a new creation. But an old character taken from an older property. IE: Jumpman from Donkey Kong becoming Mario.

Would anyone happen to know the history of the Master Chief character? Any help would be appreciated.

His armor (Mjolnir) and the Spartan program name are similar to the main player character from the Marathon series. The whole Haloverse is similar to the Marathonverse, but Bungie hasn't exactly revealed the exact connection between the two, if any.
So yes, the Chief is knid of a re-imagining of an old character from an old game.
