Need Some Help Formatting Hard drive

Yeah, I have a lot of crap on one of my computers and I just want to erase everything (I've already backed up important documents) and do a fresh install.

So I'm just trying to put "Format c:" in the command prompt and it won't let me format because the volume is in use or something. It asks if I want to force dismount or something so I try that and it says it can't because the volume is still in use.

I'm trying to do this under XP Pro. Any help would be appreciated.

I prefer to change the BIOS to boot off CD, then reboot the machine with the Win XP CD.

It'll ask you to press any key to boot of the CD, then eventually you'll get the option to format the whole HD.

U cant format the drive your operating system is on if you are using it at the time. Make startup disk and format from dos or use the windows xp installer to format the drive before re-installing.
