NeoGAF should attach genre tags on users

Would NeoGAF be a better place of users had genre preferences attached to their tag?

  • Yes, this is a good idea and should be implemented ASAP

  • This is a good idea but too difficult o implement effectively

  • This is a bad idea because…

“Madden 24 sucks”

That statement has wildly different meaning depending on if a sports gamers says it or if a JRPG fan says it.

NeoGAF is filled with similar comments about all types of games from all types of gamers. Wouldn’t it be more useful if we saw the genre preferences of people after reading their impressions of a given game?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Why not add signatures instead? would accomplish a similar thing but with more freedom

bruh, did you hear your modem dial up before you posted this? are you communicating to us from 1997?
Are you not aware that the internet is the exclusive domain of paid indian astroturfers, driving engagement and farming likes, to both create and sustain individual consumer preference bias across all economic metrics that can be atomized and sold back to you?

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
I like platformers.

There, I expect everyone here to remember that.

This is just wishing for more ways to discredit anything anyone says.
I don’t think so. If someone shows an appreciation and knowledge about a genre you’re interested in, their opinion carries more weight.

If someone doesn’t play a genre you’re interested in, their opinion carries less weight.

This tagging system would show all users who is and who isn’t worth engaging in.

Only if my Genre tag can be Hentai Historian.

We recently had a separate thread with the realization that people are fans of game series instead of genres in many cases.

Me having a FPS tag and mainly playing stuff like Metroid Prime doesn’t give more or less credibility to my opinion on COD.

Genre tags could be like little badges below our username, either above or below the "Member" tag or any custom tags. Hover over a badge to see what it represents. I'd probably have PC/FPS/RPG.
I don't think GAF would be a better place if we had genre tags though, it'd get tiring to see people dismiss other people's opinions as a result of their tags.

What this guy said.
This tagging system would show all users who is and who isn’t worth engaging in.
This would get obnoxious quickly.

I definitely don't want to see signatures under our posts, those are just annoying :lollipop_squinting:

Why stop at genres? Add what system they are on and if the are a fan, a fanboy or a warrior.
Or add how many bans and warnings users have with the reasons.

But to be serious, that stuff only leads to toxic conversations.

I think it would actually lead to fewer toxic conversations because it more effectively displays a users area of preference.

For example, I think Astro Bot sucks, but I’m not a fan of any 3D platformers post Mario 64. If someone is a fan of modern 3D playgoers they would more quickly understand my stance and only engage with me if they saw a value in it.

Humans are crazy good at distinguishing between different faces because reputation was vital in our survival. It lead to less toxic interactions over thousands of years.

Haggmaxxer, Whore, Slut, Gamer (least preferred on this forum), Yapper, Skibidy Toilet, Pronoun Lover, Gold Digger etc. It's better when others give you your genre.
What's the difference between whore and slut to justify separate tags?
