Same, I actually never even noticed it (generally because every scene with them in was so damn dark) though I am wondering what the logic of the armour looking like that was, to begin with. From what I can remember the fact their armour looks so different from every other in the show is never explained.
I guess now it never will be seeing as they're reconning it.
I gotta think they were going with some sort of bioorganic look (for what purpose, I don't know). If nothing else it set them apart visually however dumb it would be tactically.

Man why do they always go for a generic and uninteresting design with medieval armor? There's so many cool ones and the witcher is fantasy for crying out loud, they could be more creative with those armors.
They paid someone to design that first one.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They had vast amounts of source material and came up with raisin armor!
I'm only willing to give them props for changing it. Should have never looked like that in the first place.
