This is going to be as bad as Dragonball Evolution. Of all the shows you think of that could work as live action, this 100% isn’t one of them. Betting the cgi budget from Netflix for this will be super low

I'll see how Cowboy Bebop is before caring about this show. I haven't even seen the One Piece anime so won't have any reference for quality. Wife and I are getting through Naruto, Kaiji and then Magic Knight Rayearth first.

Who thought this was a good idea? I LOVE One Piece but this show does NOT fit for live action AT ALL!!! The artstyle is super cartoony and over the top, I just cant don't want to picture it.

$10 million + per episode, it is up there with the most expensive shows made by Netflix

I hope they realize that actors get old, unlike cartoons. But I guess it would be surprising to them if this went on for 10+ years like everything else One Piece.

They cast a good looking redhead to play a fictional good looking redhead? In 2021?

Anyway, the casting looks good. I just see no way One Piece can be adapted to live action without it being a cringy mess.

I'm surprised no Ranma 1/2, would go well for their non binary danger hair teenage nudity audience.

Netflix getting ready to defile another classic anime before Cowboy Bebop is even out.

Who is asking for these live action adaptations anyway?

It's also such a bad fit for a live action adaptation.
There's stuff like Monster, 20th Century Boys, Psycho Pass, Planetes, Parasyte, etc that could work reasonably well as a live action show.

But nah, let's go for the one with the crazy visuals, ridiculously over the top characters with a borderline retarded main character, and that involves things like a stretchy rubber man fighting a shark dude. That's sure to be a good fit for a live action show, and it will look great on a regular Netflix original Tv show budget

Reserving opinions until released.
It’s gonna be the whole Heath Ledger thing all over. An actor is just as good as the script and the range they can output. Remember these adaptations cannot be carbon copies of the original material as that is quite impossible and merely an interpretation.

I can’t think of any anime to live action that isn’t an abomination. And One Piece’s Art style is definitely not appropriate for live action.

I love Luffy, his an idiot but his lovable idiot but I just cant see that personality translate in live action, it like trying to make live action movie of Bugs Bunny with real people.

Oh I love Luffy too. But yeah, that cartoony lovable idiot personality doesn't translate to live action.
Nothing about One Piece translates well into live action.

Even with a more straightforward character like Sanji, if they put that haircut and his usual clothes on a real actor it's just going to look dumb, specially in the context of a pirate ship. A dude with green spiky hair and a sword in his mouth will look really fucking stupid too

100% agree, these guys couldn't make a proper live action of Ghost in the Shell and Death Note, let alone One Piece with its very crazy over the top artstyle.

The story itself and emotional beats lend itself well to being live action.

They will need to tone down some cartoonish elements like hair styles and 20 ft character heights but if they get to a place where its basically Pirates of the Caribbean aesthetics with some marvel super powers it could work

But that would be no longer One Piece tho, the cartoony characters, the over the top action and personality is big part what makes it One Piece.

found at 4chan. Looks far better than cowboy bebop cosplayer but still laughable.

Honestly, better than expected. There is no way Netflix could have kept "propotions" without going full CGI, at least this casting sort of looks like how I would imagine each of them with normal size limbs, waists and boobs.
