Netflix Jimmy Savile Documentary

I’ve finished watching both parts of the documentary and holy hell is it a heavy thing to watch. Fucking hell.

For anyone not sure who Jimmy Savile was:

He was a national Institution in Great Britain. Who fronted one of the greatest TV shows at the time. For the children of Great Britain. Who know doubt children born from a certain time wanted to go on.

He also did massive amounts of charity work. Became friends with the royal family.

Anyways

Despite looking like the creepiest fucker ever he was over. He even met Elvis and write the intro for the stranger danger book in the USA.

But fucking hell.
Watch the documentary but it is heavy viewing.

Jim’ll Fix It was a mandatory programme to watch back then. Nobody knew this shit then.
I wrote in to be on the show when younger.

Respect to Ian Hislop in the documentary. You can see him react to all the “jokes” in disgust and a sort of wtf?!? That’s not attacking anyone else in the Documentary. All the others were professional enough to hide the repulsion they felt. Ian was just more obvious. Seeing as he was on a quiz show. Where everyone else was doing interviews.

Ugh.
I watch true crime documentaries all the time (Netflix has some really good ones.) but I can't bear to hear about this asshole and what he did to kids... and that he got away with it his whole life.

I hope they got Jerry Sadowitz on this and paid him well to make up for the lost income due to him being "too dangerous for telly", for some reason.

jufonuk jufonuk if you found the documentary on Netflix interesting I implore you to watch House of Maxwell on BBC iplayer. There are three episodes an hour each and the last episode is extra spicey for Princess Andrew.

Yeah Netflix make some of the best true crime documentaries in my opinion. The Night Stalker is a chilling watch!

People knew but Jimmy Savile was tied to politicians and members of the royal family. He was untouchable.

There's also the clip from top of the pops that was broadcast I believe where he is actively shoving his hand up a girls skirt - you can't see it but you see the reaction in the background.

I was going to say that same... that one is their best.. it was so eerie to have someone like that on the loose. That documentary probably captures the absolute dread people had at that time.

Just finished part 1 and will move onto part 2 tommorow, the documentary does a good job giving me a sense of utter dread. I know what's to come of course, as will any Brit.

I feel repulsed when watching it, even more so as the program points out the good the man did... that one point where the women from the clinic he saved said she wouldent be here if not for him really drove it home. Can you imagine the thought that the man responsible for giving you a life is also responsible for destroying so many others?

It's definitly something people should watch, even if it's unpleasant to do so, but I can understand why people would avoid it.

I've watched it and wow BBC f*ked it up so badly. I am not British but my perception was that BBC was some gold standard of Television. How could anyone not had noticed...

BBC is one of the biggest piles of shit ever. It’s no wonder you thought that the perception / deception they give. Not just Savile.

They did. The BBC was the gold standard of TV as you said.

I remember Jim'll Fix It as a kid and always wanting to write to it.

His death ... well, he never saw justice. Sickening he got away with it. Royal family with him? Even worse. Vile human,

Utterly vile man.

But for people my age he wasn't even famous. Just a weird (and now we all know why) old man who occasionally was a guest on some TV shows.

For my age growing up he was the show you wanted to go on. The man who ran marathons and raised money. Who helped everybody. I was too young to know about him growing up he became just someone you didn’t really read up on he faded from the subconscious if that makes sense.
