Never ship anything with FedEx - they destroyed my 360

So I bought a 360 out of town and had it shipped to myself with FedEx (insured). When it got here, the box I shipped it in was torn open my four games were missing, the Xbox 360 box was torn open and the system smashed up and the controller missing.

I'm fighting with FedEx on the phone right now but they claim no wrongdoing.

Managed to snap the system together but there's a rattling sound and it won't boot up.

Where'd you get it from? Please don't say Ebay...

I can't see how they can claim no liability when the damn thing came to you all busted.

Alright. So, eh... what's the point of getting insurance? (Serious question, as I've never insured a package before)

No, I bought it from a brick and motar Toys R Us out of town.

Everything was in PERFECT shape when it was packed along with 4 games. The games are gone and the 360 box is now all torn up. The system won't work anymore and the controller & remote that were in there are now missing.

Did you order it from eBay?

He shipped it to himself, read the post.

The rattling sound is normal -- general consensus is that its a ball or something so the system can keep track of its orientation. (though this is the least of your problems)

When shipping stuff in the UK the companies tend to ask how much the item is worth and make you take insurance out to cover any damages, Fed Ex included. Slightly off topic also noticed in my UK 360 came a form for taking out an extra 2 years guarantee for £60. It basically says add 2 years to your 3 month manufactures warrenty. I though hang on a second in Europe electronics always come with a one year warrenty, its only in the handbook in small print that MS point this out. The 2 years extra warrenty is basically a straight copy of the American form. Seems to me the US gets pretty crap consumer protection when compared to Europe. Good luck anyway Mana getting a refund.

Did you sign for it? If so, why?
That's the question. If he marked it as "Sign to Authroize Delivery Without a Signature," they could argue that the damage was done after the package was delivered ...but before he came across it.

You bought it in person "out of town" correct? If that's the case, why didn't you just bring it back yourself? That's what I would've done.

Shame about your situation though. Still, since it's insured there really shouldn't be a dispute...

And that's why you shouldn't have used FedEx or at least should have opened it before signing for it!

My bro ordered a PS2 on launch day, FedEx'd and it ended up being stolen. Needless to say, he was pissed as hell, especially since it was gonna go up on Ebay :lol

Something in this story sounds really funky. You are sure that it was packaged ok. You were present when the package was delivered and the box looked sound. You opened it up and it was all f-ed up? What's the point of insurance if they won't cover you for that? :lol That is some fucked up shit right there. Don't tell me you should be forced to make the delivery guy wait till you open the package oatmeal. That's asking for too much.

I use FedEx all the time, shipped a 360 from Canada to California with no problems whatsoever... So ManaByte, perhaps the world has a grudge on you?

Sounds like the delivery guy / someone at the sort facility figured out what it was and did some playing...

Maybe he's trying to scam FedEx.

My uncle Charlie bought a wife from a small village in East Germany, had her shipped FedEx, and when she arrived she had CLEARLY been opened and did not have that new box smell. Needless to say, he was pissed.

:lol

Sucks about the 360. I've had similar but far less expensive problems with FedEx myself. Another vote for USPS kicking ass.

An explanation on why you had to have it shipped to your house would be nice, cause there better be a damn fucking, good reason why you would send yourself $600 worth of gaming goods in the mail, especially when you already had them in your hands.

That sucks. I saw a few Fedex guys delivering stuff to my old job. Boxes were dropped uniformly and they seemed to be in such a rush that they didn't care about the items themselves. I just assumed it was like that everywhere except USPS where speed is not that important, lol.

Now, it seems like maybe someone at the Fedex Store broke into the box, dropped the unit itself, so put it back in the box and sent it on it's way.

There is always that. Maybe he didn't want to carry it on a plane or something. I know I wouldn't check it in for sure.

Maybe because I was flying and the system and 4 games was too much to check on a plane? I used to trust FedEx more than baggage handlers.

But I've been on the phone with MS and they think they can probably fix it.

i'd still try to get fedex to pay you for damages/lost in transit first before fixing anything

You couldn't just stuff it in a backpack (system still in plastic to prevent scratches) and take it on as carry-on luggage? When I'm transporting systems/games (vacation and what not) that's what I always do.

That power supply would be too heavy for any plane.

lol @ signing for it without inspecting it.

What do you think you're signing for? Attendance?

There is a new policy where they won't have any signature confirmation anymore for cases like this.

Sorry about the Xbox fiasco. I really can't imagine why Fedex won't cover it, if it was insured.

Did that dude just lose an arm?? :lol

Damn, sorry to hear about your whole 360 fiasco, Manabyte. Some of these guys are a bit insensitive, but I can relate. I too had to send the original Xbox home with a few games, but I used USPS, and I had to do this because I was still in the Army, and bought one when I wasn't supposed to, at launch. So instead of letting the drill Sergeants find out and confiscate my system (at launch no less), I did what I had to do. I swear by USPS. I have yet to have a significant problem with them, but I've had many problems with UPS, FedEx, and DHL. UPS is the worst of the worst. I've had the drivers lie right to my face and tell me they attempted to deliver a package, and no one was home (knowing damn well that it was a lie, because I took days off from school/work to make sure I was there). If this is true, where the hell was my info notice? Calling the office and complaining was no help either, since the people who worked there at the time were just as unintelligent and dishonest as the driver. Now I only use companies like UPS, FedEx, and DHL when I absolutely have to.
