Wow at the blue/green wood porch textures. Gotta give it to them, they have great scenery artists that stand right up there with Valve's work on HL2.

Hope the game plays as good as the graphics look :)

Wow, an actual shot of something things that look like enemies. 'bout time.

Im loving the soundtrack of this game, so eerie. Im also loving the fact that it seems to be something original, lets hope thats a trend that continues this gen.

To be frank the last four shots are awful. Ass textures, ass shadowing and ass-like jaggies. About 6 low-poly cars on the road without any shadowing, 2D trees (sprites) in the distance... I could go on and on forever.

Looks no better than San Andreas for PC and I dare even say it looks worse than SA (especially the last shot).

However the first 2 shots are amazing, finally something that beats Half-Life 2 in the realism factor.

And here comes my daily question for Blimblim:

the first and the fourth shot show basically the same exact scene. The first one looks way better than the fourth one, why is that? Is the trailer low-res (not HD)?

It's the same situation as with Test Drive shots - incoherent media.

Must be a coincidence I captured right at the bad time, because this small sequence actually show the shadows changing with the sun position. At least it shows it's realtime I guess :)

The first 2 shots are screen captures done by Remedy. Everything else is from the trailer. Even with HDTV videos, the compression is still very noticeable when you do screengrabs like I did. Watch the HDTV video, it looks way beyond anything we have ever played to this day.

I know the last four shots aren't up to scratch, but they still rape san andreas

If you notice it, in the video, shadows for small objects (trees, cars, etc.) only appear at a nearby distance(you can notice it the most when the camera flies over the forest). Must be some early beta bug or something.

as the guy with the shitty computer... is there anywhere that has the video in a smallelr resolution format?

EDIT: nm, the low res one ran pretty smooth

even moreso than the Killzone video?
I don't include Killzone, because we REALLY don't know if it was realtime.

I talked to the devs about this game, and they explained their tech and some of the things they are doing.

Well, I just made a 15MB divx version of it, so I might as well post it, in case anyone still needs it. :)

Get it here.

I'll view the movie when I get home, but even those screens look really nice. Even the ones being dimissed as lousy are a huge leap over this gen - and considering the game is still early and they were movie captures, I'm even more impressed.

Those screens look fantastic but I need to go ahead and nitpick at one thing that's really been bugging me this generation too. The LOD 2D trees in the distance. I have no problem using this technique in games...but it needs to be pushed back further into the distance where I can't tell they are 2D. I understand we don't have the kind of power to have a gazillion fully rendered trees including the ones in the distance and need to be replaced by lower poly models, but the placement of these trees in accordance with the viewing distance is not yet good enough. Push them back to where I can't tell and I'll be happy.

This is my only complaint. Other than that, the game looks fantastic.

Yeah it looks really bad in the trailer. But maybe ingame we won't ever fly from one point to another. If we just stay on the ground the LOD distance will be good enough. Just my guess.

Haha....does anyone remember Jurassic Park: Trespasser, where sprites would turn in to polygonal objects when you were about 25 feet in front of them?

Trespasser had a lot of good idea, but awful execution.

yeah I actually have that game. After all these years I think my PC finally has enough power to run it properly.

Finally downloaded it and video looks great!

Oh well, I shouldn't judge a game by a few lousy shots (which even weren't official, just Blim's captures!).

Is this coming out in 2006 I hope? Looks great. I look at it as...Max Payne meets Eternal Darkness, but I don't care what it's like...It looks awesome, and the music to the trailer gets the epic feel across, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I like this much more than the plastic look of other 360 titles like Gears of War.
This and RE4 actually seem to have a lot of the same style going on graphically.
