New Black footage

I wish they would just hurry up and announce a 360 port of this so I dont blow $40 on a current gen version.
 
I finally played the demo and quite frankly I hated it. I thought it was boring...but these new videos look like it'll be fun. I'll be giving this one a rental considering there's no multiplayer in this game
 
The feedback of the weapons and explosions on this game sounds great, but I think it needs more close combat (melee) action
 
HOLY SHIT!

I can't believe I'm saying this ...

... but the combination of art, geometry, effects, animation, and framerate make this (overall) probably the best looking console fps I've ever seen.

This, after playing PD0 and CoD2 on 360.

The demo is really old code, please don't judge the game before you at least play with final code :(

Maybe they shouldn't release old code then. It's like they want me to avoid this game (my anticipation was pretty high before the demo...now I don't really care too much about the game)

If companies were not to release old code, then we wouldn't have any demos until the game is almost complete.

If anything, we should beg companies to do this more. Obviously, the demo should state that it is early in development though.
 
It looks good, but so far, there doesn't appear to play a whole lot different from any FPS games I've already played (and I haven't been really into FPS titles for quite some time). The enemies seem to be pretty brain dead from that video. My personal favorite part is when the player runs down a stairway, guns blazing, and an enemy decides to sloooowly walk behind a truck to hide, not even firing his weapon.
 
I haven't read much about the game other than looking at screens. Is this game like FEAR but without any horror?

Straightforward blow shit up FPS with a story told through live-action "reporter doc" style.
 
It looks great, as always, but I'm noticing some odd sound design decisions. I can definitely be kind of an "audio whore", but there were some nice sound effects that were present in earlier videos that seem to be gone in all the latest footage. The very first videos released had sounds for ejected shell casings hitting the ground, and they really added to the whole action movie feel. These are absent in all the movies released since, and the fantastic meaty thud of bullets impacting the enemies also seems to be gone as well in this new footage.

I'm sure most people would think these are totally insignificant changes, but I can't stand when features that are in earlier builds get removed for no good reason.

but on a serious note, are there any vids of the PS2 version? i have my doubts about it. i think i'm just going to wait for either a 360 version or BC, although BC might still be shitty. i've about had it playing PS2 versions of multiconsole games lately. i want to own you Black, but you dont want me to!

The PS2 version looks just as good, cehck out the second vid at Gametrailers (the interview one), all the footage is from the PS2 version and it looks incredible.
 
I've just got back from a trip to New York this week. (I live in England.)

I picked up the official PS2 demo disk from the magazine.

It was interesting that the 24 demo on the US disc is a much older build than the demo on the UK demo disk. The UK demo not only used a different level from the game, but there was an obvious improment in the graphics and character control. It also had the prog scan option in the menus.

I wonder if the UK demo of BLACK is a newer build. I thought the UK demo rocked, especially in 480p. It is amazing what they have got the PS2 doing.
 
OH SHIT! This looks incredible.

My only criticisms right now are:

- guy looks like he is skating over terrain rather than running
- like so many FPS, enemies can take a few rounds to the chest/face without any apparent effect on their ability to get up and shoot you if the game doesn't think they deserved death
- no multiplayer
- this game is only playable with console controllers...which are shit for FPS

Please make a PC port of this with online. Or make this available on Revolution around launch!
 
Wow, this game keeps looking better and better.

I'll probably pick this one up the day it's released. And I'm not much of a FPS fan besides Half-Life and a couple of other classics.

There is a 'next gen' version coming (I'll asume 360 and PS3 further down the line), but they/no-one can talk about it as it's under NDA (which I have not signed. Arf!).

It's also a fair few months off I believe and will have some unique content (I don't know what).

Id bet my grandmother's ass that their will be a 360 port in the future.
 
I hate how the explosions are damn near scripted. If I shoot a rocket at an object I want the explosion to center around where I shot the object not go into some preset mini nuke explosion that looks exactly the same every time. They're really close with this one though the world looks more interactive than a lot of games but after playing Mercs the interaction isn't as impressive as I hoped it would be nor are explosion physics. I will wait for the reviews on this one. Something about fighting hundreds of non descript terrorist in abandoned buildings and junk yards doesn't excite me that much.

I'm still waiting for my perfect FPS that combines Duke3D, Soldier of Fortune and Battlefield for a perfect mix of vehicles, interaction, enemy AI & hit detection and level design. I saw a head pop off in Black but other than that it doesn't seem like the enemies can be blown apart like in SoF.

True. Might as well make this BC for 360 instead. If Burnout Revenge is any indication, the upgrade will be minimal.

I still can't see myself playing this game with the DS2 pad.

The DS2 is especially poor for FPS, but I find all console controllers inadequate for the purposes of enjoyable FPS gaming. I used to defend them against claims of PC superiority, but ever since I got properly into PC FPSs the analogue stick has just become hopeless for precise/reflex aiming. I cannot enjoy FPSs on consoles anymore simply because I don't like the control method...which is a shame, because I loved Goldeneye and played enough PD to get the top multiplayer ranks.

:lol That RPG explosion at the end was crazy. This title hasn't been on my mind that much lately, but it looks excellent IMO, definitely grabbing it.
