I saw this on another board and thought it was somewhat amusing.

Canada Day Coin to be given to new Canadians during Celebrate Canada Week

OTTAWA, ON, June 22 /CNW/ - Mr. Tim Spiegel, Member, Board of Directors,
Royal Canadian Mint, was in Brentwood Bay, BC, today to unveil the 2004 Canada
Day Coin, which will be given to all new Canadians sworn in during Celebrate
Canada Week

Nick Wooster, aged 11, of Saanichton, British Columbia, submitted the
winning design in a contest held earlier in the year and was also on hand to
witness the public introduction of his design. The contest was held in
partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Interestingly,
Citizenship and Immigration Minister, the Honourable Denis Coderre, had
launched the national contest at Bayside Middle School in October of 2003.

"The Royal Canadian Mint is delighted to launch its 2004 Canada Day Coin
in Brentwood Bay, and to offer our congratulations to Nick Wooster, the young
artist who won the design contest" said Mr. Spiegel. "The playful design
celebrates and emphasizes a playful humour, which is shared among all
Canadians through kindness, regardless of language, culture or religion".

When thousands of new Canadians receive their citizenship certificates
next week, they will also receive the 2004 Canada Day coin. Since 2001, all
new Canadians sworn in during Celebrate Canada Week (the week leading up to
Canada Day) have received the limited edition Canada Day coins.

If the antlers were pinchers, the ears claws, and the mountains were the shore on a beach... why that's no mouse, that's a LOBSTER

The design's okay, but it's also hilarious in a way. It's just not something one would expect from a major country. Looks like a coin made for some guy's self-proclaimed republic or something (though knowing a kid designed it, explains a lot).

Still, I can't wait to see the coin for 2005 Canada Day. On it, Red Green will be giving the immigrants a thumbs up with the advice, "Keep your stick on the ice." ;)

That's awesome.
The Canadian quarter, for those not in the know, normally has a realistic-looking moose on it..

But all these 'special' quarters are getting annoying.
Some dude could mint up a bunch of Canadian quarters with GAF-member faces and I wouldn't know whether they were fake or some new 'special' edition quarter.

I didn't realize Canada made many special edition quarters. What other kinds/designs have they done recently?

There's quarters for every province, regular quarters, and now that quarter. Also, some Twoonies celebrate Nunavat so there is an Eskimo instead of a polar bear.

We're getting a new $20 this month. With our luck, it will be neon green. Forget skittles, collecting Canadian money is the real rainbow.

I actually have one of those new coins (ahem). Design rocks, that moose is cute as hell. Everything about money is always way too serious, so seeing something like this is refreshing :)

I also have another quarter which has a drawing of several stylized children holding hands, with sun above them. Also very nice looking. I got it as a change in the conveneince store, and I have no clue what was the occasion for making it.

Gets a thumbs up from me. Maybe it's because in Canada we don't hold the "Mighty Dollar" in such high regard. It's only money.
