People in different regions will buy different games (with different file sizes) and a different number of games on average.
If the average user in Europe downloaded 250gb a month from steam that doesn't mean the average user in Asia does the same.

Valve years ago said there were 1bil PC's with Steam installed, and i have seen 2bil mentioned elsewhere.

I mean there are like 8 other PC launchers, one with the biggest game in the world player wise with Fortnite.
A rough estimate that is often used when adding up all launchers together is around 200mil active PC gamers, which is obviously a lowball number if this thread is accurate.
The 1bil and 2bil numbers obviously include people who simply downloaded and started Steam at some point, but may not be avid gamers.

Have you noticed with Valve how quiet they are. I mean barely ever any controversy. Whenever anyone says anything bad towards Steam (EPIC for example), or another publisher tries to do stuff to counter Steams dominance (EPIC again, free games, lower percentage fee, etc), Valve just never respond, and simply continue to grow. You barely ever hear a peep out of them, and they just continue to do there thing, there way.

I mean it has to be that way because of game budgets. But to be honest i dont mind that at all as graphics have been peaking for a while, and making games for lower end consoles means a decent solid PC is probably going to bring you better results, and last the whole gen if wanted.

It may have been that way back when ps4 was peak but nowadays with smart TVs being everywhere it made less sense to run a console just to watch streaming videos.
On top of that, TV have plenty of alternative streaming apps that already surpass the numbers that's available on consoles.

Made it when I was a kid on a throwaway email, didn't take it seriously and forgot about it. At the time I was massively into Blizzard games like WoW which had their own game specific launcher. After all that that I finally returned to Steam with a real email.

The thing about this is games run well on PCs weaker than consoles, so it's not even like consoles are the base. The PS5 does tend to be the lead platform which means it gets the most attention when it comes to optimization but PC games are in a pretty respectable state after improvements to shader compilation and CPU optimizations.

Steam is just too good of a platform. It has everything you need and want. Playstation has nothing to offer in return, except high prices, paid online and worthless customer service. The platforms only saving grace was physical discs but Sony killed it, so no reason to stick with PS over Steam now.

until a couple months ago it sounded like they were gonna release a much more powerful one, albeit at a premium price. I can't have been the only guy ready to pay a premium price if it were capable of being a literal high end steam machine that didn't require GP to access 3rd party stores.
But that seems very unlikely without Phil there. I imagine Asha asked those who didn't leave with Phil how MS benefits from making a premium steam machine. and I imagine everyone looked at her and went beep boop blip and malfunctioned while trying to explain a plausible answer.

Funny, I was just playing Crysis Remastered at 4k / RT on my rig and I'm like, wow, this still blows me more away than any game on modern consoles... well over 60fps and I'm only on a RX9070.

My nephew recently got his Steam account back after it got stolen by someone from Ukraine.
Luckily there was transaction records kept by me since I was always the one helping him purchase games when he was still too young to have bank account. The old records helped to convince Steam support that the account stolen.
