New developments in Manhunt case

What? It was a sensationalistic ploy to sell papers and push an agenda? Bandwagonned by Jack Thompson (and a few of our brighter lights on the forum)?

This is my complete lack of surprise.

Holy shit, what else did they find in the bedroom, some old sneakers? Quickly somebody sue Nike because they provided the killer with the means to walk towards his victim.

This case, just like all the other "blame it on games" garbage will go nowhere.

Ha that is one hell of a twist. I daresay the Daily Mail will drop all knowledge of it happening and the Mirror would probably say something like "But this murder shows a accurate representation of what would happen if the killer also owned the game"

If you want to see some stupid shit, and it probably shows the IQ of most of their readers, feel free to go here.

BREAKING NEWS! Victim breathed too hard into headset, allowed killer to find him as a result. Full story on page 3

Jack Thompson, man what a fucking guy. He swears to destroy both Rockstar and Sony.

http://biz.gamedaily.com/features_new/jack_thompson/

GameDaily: This whole situation in England is certainly unfortunate. From what I have read, the parents of the victim have contacted you?

Thompson: The mother did, yeah. We are going to destroy Rockstar, you can count on that.

GD: You are going to target Rockstar North?

Thompson: Not just Rockstar, another target will be Sony. The tie-in between Rockstar and Sony is rather firmly established.

GD: What is the ultimate goal here?

Thompson: To destroy Rockstar.

GD: What does that mean in terms of…

Thompson: (cutting in) So they don't exist anymore.

GD: Thanks for your time Mr. Thompson and good luck in your struggle.

Thompson: Thanks. We don't need luck. The vectors are locked in, these people are dead meat.

What a delusional son of a gun.

Thompson also totally no sells and plays down the question by GameDaily on how the kid came into possesion of the game.

Thompson's always good for a laugh. The guy has no clue at all as to what he's talking about. He's especially kidding himself if he thinks he's going to "destroy" Sony or Rockstar. Sounds like some little kid talking about someone they hate with all the destroy crap.

Does anyone find it a bit funny that this guy is trying to work against violence and killing and he's saying stuff like this:

GD: You think one lawsuit can do this or do you see yourself filing some suits against Rockstar in the U.S.?

Thompson: There have been dozens of murders that have been tied to their products throughout the world, so it's just a matter of piling on, and we will do that. These people will not stop, they will not stop marketing the games to children and therefore since they will not listen to reason, since they won't even communicate with me and others, we will destroy them, it's that simple. David didn't reason with Goliath, he killed him.

GD: You don't see any other way, such as the ESRB jacking up their ratings?

Thompson: They are a joke. They are a deceptive joke. Doug Lowenstein makes Saddam Hussein look like a post-reformed Pinocchio.

This guy needs to seek personal help before he starts going after game companies. He's got some problems of his own.

Will anybody break their neck to go re-interview this guy? of course not....

O_o
"This product is inappropriate for people under the age of 17." is a joke? Deceptive at that?
How often are these games "linked" to those above the recommended age? I know I've never heard of it.

The MPAA had 50 years to get their ratings system out to the public. The ISA has had 10 years. But these overreactionary asses won't give it time >:-(.

Given Jack's total hate on for Rap(see his crusades against 2 Live Crew & Geto Boys), he's going to have an aneurysm when he finds out about GTA:SA.

He mentions in the article that his crusade against rap changed the music industry forever. How? How's the music rating any different from game ratings? You can be underage and buy a music CD that containts explicit lyrics just as easily as you can buy a game that has violence in it. I don't see how one is any better than the other. If you're satisified with one, then the other should be just fine with you too.

Nintendo will destroy Sony. And Thompson.

10 seconds at the end of each commercial will now be specifically for displaying a TV sized copy of the rating.

In addition 50% of all future print ads must be devoted to display a rating as large as will fit.

I have yet to see an actaul description of the crime itself (I wonder why that is...). However, I somehow doubt the kid killed whoever it is he killed by hurling Manhunt discs at them.

If not, then as far as I'm concerned, Manhunt had as much to do with the crime as what he ate for breakfast that day.
