New Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Trailer

I tried playing The Longest Journey after all the great word-of-mouth I heard about it. Being an 'adventure' game junkie (I lived and breathed Sierra in the early thru mid 90s), I actually found it pretty damn boring.

It's still installed on my comp, but it just wasn't doing it for me. Syberia... now that game got me hooked. :)

Holy shit, thanks for the heads up. I'm in the middle of playing TLJ now and am enjoying the hell out of it. This just makes me want to finish it all the more! Can't wait to pick this up. Hopefully the story is as good as it looks.

WOW, I had the exact oposite impressions

I've had TLJ for so many years now and I have yet to finish it, I better get on it.

*Edit: Syberia I/II are decent adventure games. So is Still Life III, which is basically the same exact game. Actually I think they used the same game engine.

I've been meaning to buy Still Life...

Hmm, I never got around to playing the Syberia games...maybe I should.

But yeah, I'm a crazy adventure game junkie as that was almost all I played back in the day on PC and like you I didn't find The Longest Journey to be anything special. I finished it, it was a good adventure game. But maybe 8/10ish or something, not this OMG BEST ADVENTURE GAME IN TEN YEARS! that so many people speak of.

The Longest Journey had waaay too much backtracking, and the story was standard fantasy-fare with a predictable twist at the end. Good writing, nice art, and a solid length though. Like I said, it was a good game, just no OMG THE BEST.

I felt exactly the same way. I'm also a big adventure game fan - my wife and I both are - and we found The Longest Journey to be decent, but nothing more. The puzzles were just not interesting or satisfying to solve, and the models were ugly and poorly animated. I know that these types of games are rarely animation showcases, but in TLJ it was a distraction. Some of the voice acting was pretty painful as well - a scene near the end of the game that was meant to be powerful and emotional was stiff and awkward. It was worth playing through, but it wouldn't even be in my top 10 favorite adventure games.
