...oh and let me know if anything's missing. :)

I must be honest, and this isn't a knock at the system, as the software lineup is full of some really popular titles that I'm sure many here want. But I simply cannot find a single title yet that I would really feel confident in justifying a PSP purchase for myself. Though, that MMORPG from Sony has me REALLY interested. I think I'd really be in heaven with a handheld MMORPG.

I would agree, but the fact that there will be portable sports-gaming goodness in full 3d is enough to make me excited about it. Nothing else out there that's any good. I know they don't want to make it into a port machine, but I'd take ports of the GTA games and some of the better action games from PS2 on it.

I get:

DS Announced - 130
TBA - 23

PSP Announced - 126
TBA - 16
To be fair PSP does have a good 20-30 announced games from tiny western developers (some working out of their garages no doubt) with no publisher in sight while DS probably has less than 10. :p

Jarrod's the man.

Anyways, Jarrod could you bold the Nintendo DS and PSP titles so there's a clearer distinction between the two lists?

EDIT: Thanks Jarrod!

I had no idea they were working on Magical Vacation II for DS.

Fuck you for not localizing the first one Nintendo. :p

Thanks a ton for this list!

Lots of good DS games IMO. Not too sure about the PSP list though, basically you've got some spinoffs of big name stuff and some direct console ports pretty much.

Then again, I'm a Nintendo fan, so...

You're actually ripping on someone giving you gaming information on a gaming board?? There would be nothing to talk about if there weren't posters like jarrod. Grow up dood.

DS's lineup definately has me more interested than Sony's. Nintendo pretty much sold me when they announced Castlevania. I hope we get a 2D Metroid too.

In terms of software, DS > PSP right now for me too. I'm sure I'll get a PSP sometime next year (what's the deal with that MMORPG?), but I really really want a DS. That SquareEnix lineup can NOT be beat.

Games: DS >>>> PSP

but te PSP is so damn sexy.. I dunno if I'd be able to resist buying it ..

if it just was a cellphone at the same time, that would guarantee my purchase...

A whole lot of Nintendo, some choice third party stuff (VJ, Wrestling, Spidey). Waiting until Spring before picking up a DS; hopefully Advance Wars/Metroid/Mario Kart by then.

Thx Jarrod, most complete list of games for both systems I've seen on the net.

I agree with what was said earlier: there isn't a single game for the PSP that I want so much that I'll buy a PSP at launch. I'm absolutely blown away by the low pricepoint though.

Thanks jarrod

Im completly torn. Those shots of the PSP pack were hot......omfg I want one more than anything. But I look at the game list over and over and I'm TRYING as hard as I can to want any of those launch games and I dont. :( not a single one looks that appealing. Nothing that I would rather play than the GBA games I already have. I want a PSP so bad tho!!!!

on the other hand, the DS (to me) looks like a clunky overgrown GBA. I think my NES GBASP is so much sexier. Tho I want to play Driller Spirits and Advance Wars DS NOW!

ugh! why are they doing this to me!!!! Why can't the PSP be more expensive so I can not want one!

I've not seen a great majority of those games.

I can see why people think that the PSP lineup is much more appealing to the mainstream consumer. Many of those games are in 'major' franchises (From the console world).

Congratulations, you really deserve it!

Those are the main ones that have my interest. Lunar not being in GA's hands has me a bit worried though, especially after Lunar on the GBA.

To be fair though, Lunar hasn't been in GA's hands since 1994.

Awesome list, jarrod. :)

You can add Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith to both lists, as that was announced today for the DS and PSP. It will be launching in Spring 2005, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by LucasArts. The press release is here.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Umm, that press release doesn't say that Lucasarts is publishing. There's no indication that Ubisoft isn't publishing them just as they published Apprentice of the Force for the GBA.

Edit: Talk about odd, Ubi's site lists Lucasarts as the developer of Apprentice of the Force. Someone over there is a bit confused.

-Rockstar north/leeds TBA (???)
-Planet Moon TBA
-Climax TBA
-Stormfront Studios TBA (<-- makers of LOTR and Demon stone)
-Chunsoft TBA (they're on the dev support list)

I've skipped all those games for lack of any solid publisher (once they're actually confirmed to release, they'll be added). Also, I've already included BurnOut (Ward mentioned a PSP version as coming iirc) and two ChunSoft PSP games (Mysterious Dungeon and some Sound Novel). Wreckless hasn't been announced for PSP, the western Wreckless developer (PS2 & GC versions) is doing a PSP game.

But I did take off Project Rub thanks. :)

-Mysterious Dungeon Pokemon World: Pikachu's Adventure (ChunSoft)

Is that a cartoon cartridge, like the ones on the GBA?

Or is this a third-party publisher publishing a Nintendo license?

3rd party dungeon RPG from ChunSoft, who makes the Mysterious Dungeon series. So far the series has encompassed Dragon Quest, Druaga, Final Fantasy and now Pokemon brands. :)

Wreckless was a translation error -- one site picked up the news in English about Broadsword getting licensed, a Japanese site picked it up, and a US site picked up the Japanese news.

This is scary shit. ALL of these developers working on games that will never sell. 100 + games for $150-$200 handhelds!!!! Doom and gloom for many of these folks. See the latest GBA software sales? less than 15k for the 10th place game. How are all of these being funded.

Oh well, LOTS of nice bargin bin games for me in a year or so. By both systems, and the best 5+ games for each... wait for the dumping to begin to pick up some of these others.

Well, it's worth noting that both platforms are shooting for an older audience, the hope being that they'll bring in more software sales too.

Amd GBA software sales aren't all that bad either, they don't have the immediate sales console games do but they don't have the step drop off either, they're most consistant month to month (especially in Japan). Sega, Namco, Square Enix, Konami, THQ, Capcom, Atari, Bandai and other notable publishers all have million selling GBA titles.
