New e309 EYEPET Trailer(dangerous cuteness inside)

........
:lol

EDIT: erm, that was very nice. I'd be all up on that if you could control it with a PS3 controller.

This be olds. There's another thread floating around somewhere.

E3 is amazing for the duplication of threads without search :D

With or without the search function, people still post duplicate shit anyway...:P

This looks great
I heard of the eye pet thing , but not yet looked it up..
just mailed it to my wife who shows my 4 year old, she went nuts ove rit, she wants one ....now :p
interesting that some of the tech there such as the scanning of the paper with the drawing was what MS also showed during it's conference. I guess that is not something natal specific .. (drawing/object recognition that is )

That eye monkey is teh crazy.

what is funny in those videos is that the families have always huuuge ass rooms where they sit. Natal presentation video was the same. what is with small, dark nerd rooms ? represent !

that some Natal shit over there ..funny that PSeye can do this .

so there is Card thingy for Eyepet ? so I guess this is not PSN game since you will need that card/gadget thingy to play with Eyepet .

Biggest problem for me is even though my system is in my living room, I still have a table. These demos never show tables in the room.

If I was still a kid, I'd be going crazy for this though. I could see myself goofing around with it once or twice but kids will love this thing. Sony better market it right. Get that monkey in some kids meals toys. :lol

Some more information about the game from the EU playstation blog:

The game comes with a Magic Card, which you place on the floor once the PlayStation Eye is set up. It then becomes the control device for a variety of toys. For example, there’s a trampoline which you can move around by simply sliding the Magic Card across the floor, and each toy has an associated goal, such as gaining a certain number of trampoline bounces, to unlock further toys.

This sense of play and interaction is just one aspect of the game, and its goals and challenges come mainly through how you nurture your furry friend.

“The game’s goals come from the Pet Centre and there is a professor who visits you every day – I’m talking about in-game days as opposed to real ones – and issues challenges based on your pet’s development,” said Doucet.

One of the most striking of the game’s features is the way you can draw objects on a regular piece of paper and see them come to life for your EyePet to play with. I drew a wobbly set of wheels and tractor body and held it up to the camera, and my pet copied it and, when it came to life and I started moving it with the Wireless Controller, he started chasing it around.

Some replies from James Gallagher (Content Producer SCEE) to comments from the EU playstation blog:

Lots of questions about this so I just spoke to Kim, the product manager. We’re not able to confirm the actual date but can assure you all that EyePet will be out before Christmas2009.

You can draw cars, planes, balloons, robots and puppets, and there are a few simple rules to learn. So, for example, to create a car you draw the wheels and body separately, then they come together and are realised in3D; you can play around with multiple wheels, different body-shapes and lots of different materials.

Depending on what kind of object you draw, you then get to use your creation in a mini-game. So when I made my duck-plane, I got to fly it around with my EyePet in the cockpit, bursting balloons.

--------------------------

There aren’t different pets as such, but they are so customisable that you can pretty much create whatever you like. I made a tiger in a fireman costume!

-----------

It’s not like that as such, but if your pet gets sick or you neglect him, he gets really sad (you can tell by his face) and won’t want to play as much. Also, by looking after him well you can earn items such as new outfits, as well as Trophies.

"this looks like it would be fun for five minutes... hahahah, awe that's cute... wait you can draw him toys!?!"

... my wife.

One thing I'm curious about is how it'll adapt to different 'planes' upon which the little dude runs around. Like you might have it on your floor, I might have it on my desk. I presume there's a certain amount of 'mapping' going on there to figure out where the 'usable' space is (so he doesn't go running off into thin air, say, off a table etc. :p)

(Which reminds me..mapping of a real environment into a virtual space is something MS should really have had a demo around with Natal. That's something that should be way easier with depth detection)

AWESOME stuff!!! My kids will love this. Really like the idea of drawing your own stuff and using in game. Also the idea of taking care of it, making the kids learn how to be responsible. May be then, they can have a real pet :D

Time to get Eyetoy soon. I guess they will probably sell this in a bundle with eyetoy.

This is what happened to those drawing battle tanks, and such eyetoy demos. Also the e3 wand thing was old too. They demoed that tech at some conference on stage a long time ago. It had swords, the flail and shield back then too. One of the old eye pet trailers had the paper drawing thing, when I saw it at microsoft PC it reminded me of eyepet.

that kind of came out of nowhere :).

Yes, I don't understand that either. I wonder if they ran scared of the Lionhead game, which would have been a shame since the Eyepet concept is almost a year old and is almost ready to ship. They could have very easily adjusted their conference to say, "Our competition made a video about what its technology can do in the future, but we have right that future here to play at E3 using technology people already have in their homes today." Yes, it doesn't have the voice recognition of Milo or some of the advanced features Natal offers, but it's got some amazing features on its own and the CG monkey is very well rendered.

Natal is actually late to the party. This is a Sony video from 2007:

You could scan objects or drawings and use them in the game.

There's also the old video of EyePet from August 2008.

When I saw Milo, I thought for sure Sony would show EyePet and look like fools since at the time Milo struck me as being so far ahead of even what I remembered of EyePet. However, looking back on it, there's not a lot that Milo does that EyePet can't do.

Sony has been showing off that tech for years now and it's been shown for Eyepet for a long time too. Don't know why this Natal stuff is getting so much more attention really.

Don't be surprised when you find your real pet in its stomach x-ray.

This demon devours infants, children, even souls of the unborn.
