Thoughts? The cover is incredible - Mario's face made from DS's. The back cover has Yoshi, and the next month page, Wario in the same style. Predictable score for Mario Power Tennis (I guessed similar) given the review of MK:DD; both of which I think are a tad unfair, but I can see their point.

Mario Power Tennis (GC, Nintendo): 5/10

give me a break. Thats like a midway game score... :lol

Well Nintendo has been midway like all year, they deserve all the crap they've been getting lately.

Nice score for Shadow of Rome. Am I the only person looking forward to this one?

And Shenmue for the reappraisal? Street date's tomorrow. Hopefully it'll actually be in shops then (it can be hit or miss sometimes).

I am looking forward to it as well.

the ds scores are largely good (on par with MGS3 :O) runs and hides.

Umm .. can someone post what they said about 1 line puzzle? Probably the 1st mention review I've seen

:lol :lol :lol @ Mario Tennis. Its as good as Blinx 2

"Daigasso! Band Brothers (DS) - 7"

Hey cja, I thought you posted a couple of edge reviews a few days ago, where Band Brothers recieved an 8?

EDIT: This is the thread --> http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=28463
8 is the correct score... the reviews in the actual mag for Band Bros and Hitofude were placeholders that went to print accidentially.

Oh and good scores all around. Edge has been on a roll.

How so? A good 85% of Nintendo's games are very good. Where as Midway gets lucky once in a blue moon. Have you even played Mario Tennis? It's fun as hell! meh it is not.

I think 6 might've been more appropiate for Mario Tennis. It's a fun game, not spectacularly forward moving or anything but not really average either.

AMEN!

Boo to the following:

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (PS2) - 7 - Damn a 7?!?! This game rocks hard.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2, Konami): 8/10 - sniffles

I hope they include a disclaimer that they are the most jaded gamers ever in the introduction to every issue.

well, since an informal and completely unbiased GA forum poll dictated that MGS3 was the winner based on votes (not that other major releases who shared genres didn't cannibilize eachother's votes ... but I digress), it clearly MUST be GOTY in all publications. Any offending publication is instantly biased. That's GA cannon.

And on a side note, I think we're going to have a lot of "biased" game publications this year.

If you ignore fun and focus on game development, the Mario Power Tennis score is about on target.

But who in the hell ignores fun?

I'm also wondering what people see in this game, GAF GOTY? It's good and enjoyable but, it's kinda boring actually and the gameplay is not too much different from MGS2. Honestly I think people are blinded by the awesome cutscenes and are are not actually judging the game for the gameplay. The cutscenes ARE awesome, but really I found myself just wanting to see the next cutscene over having much fun with the game itself. Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and GTA:SA are all infinitely better GAMES.

If this were the case then MGS2 wouldn't be hated so much.

You have got to be fucking kidding about Crash n Burn getting a 7... So I'm to believe that MGS3 is only a point better than this POS? :P

Mario Tennis a 5? Did they play the same game? I don't think I've played a tennis game nearly as polished or as fun. *Hears the hustle of Virtua Tennis fanboys rush in* *Tells them to get the fuck out less they fear hot piss in mouth*

From what I understand, they don't grade on polish or fun factor. A 5 from Edge means the game isn't spectacular--it doesn't mean that it's garbage.

Their scoring system is just consistant. Scores like 8, 9, 10 are all fucking awesome scores. A 6 isn't bad.

Edge and GamesTM are easily the best games magazines coming out of the UK. Both in terms of value for money and quality of the content. I haven't read any foreign publications other than EGM. They're the best games publications I've read.

But what that tells readers is that it's not even worth their time when there are titles receiving 8s and 9s. It's a dangerous game they're playing, but whatever. If European gamers decide to ignore this title it's their loss.

They usually review the Japanese or US version of a game.

I know various places do "Import" reviews, but aren't they more of a preview than anything else? The UK is actually getting a special edition that the US ain't going to see and I thought I remembered something about them getting some extra features. Not that that would really change the gameplay much, (or that MGS3 needs anything fixed ;) , but ...

I wasn't even going to post BUT

You know nothing about the game and I would say you haven't even played it if this is the basis for your argument. If you have played the game, then the part which is in bold is an incredibly ignorant statement.

How far are you in the game, D? I didn't understand its brillance until six or seven hours into it.

EDGE seem to think that (as you also wrote) the gameplay won't change that much. It's not to be seen as an import review, they won't review the game again when it's release as PAL, and on the review it is always made clear what region the game is from. And most of the time it's from PAL (I think, not paying that much attention to it).

And of course I should change my "usually" to "it's not unsual"... :)

Hm. Apparently Mario Power Tennis isn't all that great. Back when I owned a Virtual Boy(STOP LAUGHING AT ME!), I really enjoyed the Mario Tennis game for that. For those who have played both, are they similar? I guess a better question would be, 'Would the GC Mario Tennis be entertaining to me if I enjoyed the older version?'

They also will review the game again should substantial changes be made, which there probably won't if its like MGS2.

Anyone know if Konami will include a 60hz mode? I don't want to go back to bordered MGS games with shitty frame rates.

EDGE have never had credibility dont know why idiots still defend them.

Didnt you defend the Official Nintendo Magazine of all things on the old forum...

Oh, didn't know that. Haven't read it that much, and usually not that many of the reviews.

But it's good to know!

Gameplay is pretty different, but I do think people are getting off on the presentation of the game moreso. Not just cut scenes, but dialogue, music cues, etc. All MGS games have been good at this, but everything flows much better with the game in MGS3.

The next wave of bitter fanboys ... "You are blinded by pretty Visual, and looked pass the awesome Gameplay, I am going in my room to cry now !!"

people are praising because of the new gameplay, specially the last part of the game, not the cutscenes which are only heaviest at the begining and end of the game.

Mario Power Tennis IS that great. There are some design flaws, as in "Stuff you'd think they'd put in but didn't" or "Idiotic Power Moves", but go into multiplayer, turn off the power moves, and you've got a really damn fun Tennis game with great control, smooth graphics, and just a whole lot of fun. If you like Tennis games and own a GameCube, it's your only real option, but a great one. Edge was a little anal with the score, I think. In a game that's sole purpose might as well be for Multiplayer fun, ignoring that aspect of the game when reviewing it seems idiotic...like Game Informer and Mario Party, although that reeks of deep emotional issues.
