New EGM Cover Art

I just picked up this months issue of EGM (newsstand) and it has 4 new box art inserts in it! They are:

- The Legend of Zelda, the Wind Waker
- Jade Empire
- God of War
- Doom3

Overall they are pretty nice, so its worth checking out for those of you who like alternative cover art.

The Zelda one is decent, although it is a take on a nice stained glass looking cover that was posted here before. For some reason, there is a ton of black on the cover... I think a more colourful one would have been better.

Jade Empire (IMO) is the best cover of the bunch... which is a nice bonus because I think that the artwork that shipped with the game (either edition) is pretty ugly. This cover features the main villain in the game holding bloody swords and enveloped in flame. I think its a BIG improvement.

God of War... this is the only cover I think is worse than the original (NA art, anyways). It features Kratos up in the air about to bring his blades down on some monster.

Doom 3 cover seems a little pointless; it looks exactly the same as the original, except instead of a Hellknight on the box, its a Zombie Chaingunner. Other than that difference, its the same, black box with the red pentagram background, and regular Doom 3 logo.

Apparently they have done this once before, with covers from Halo 2, Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil 4, and one other game. I missed out on those; does anyone have any good scans of them or something? Id love to see what the look like.

Is there any way to actually see these without breaking any GAF rules? Surely some off-center digicam snap is sufficient to give the curious a taste while being fair to EGM by being unusable as actual box art?

Is this the issue with the Xbox360 cover story?

I have a subscription and got nothing with it.

I agree the subscriber/poster situation sucks.

With that in mind, it would be a shame if someone scanned the poster at a really high resolution and posted it here so that subscribers could print it out themselves, if they wanted.

:whistles and walks away:

Edit: And it'd be even worse if they included the last set, too. Just terrible!

Ok well here is what the cover art looks like for anyone who is interested. I cut them out and put then in game cases, and then just took photos of them. This shouldn't be any copyright problems because there is no way that people are going to make their own covers out of these. As well I did manage to find someone who had posted the EGM Resident Evil 4 replacment cover in the same method (on this forum) and it seemed to be ok. So, here goes:

For some reason I got two copies of that issue in my mail, which I didn't mind because I got one of each cover. But neither one came with the alternate boxart cover poster. :(

Last time Mark McDonald set it up so we could get the Halo 2/Resident Evil alternate boxarts

I liked the Xbox360 cover quite a bit better than the PDZ one. But the alternate covers are pretty sweet.

Is there any hope that we subscribers will get these extras in the future?

I liked the look of the Wind Waker one, but the print quality turned me off a bit.

I kind of wonder why they went to such lengths to replicate the back of the boxes and all of the details on there, though, instead of going for a more off-kiler "reverse side of the DVD" approach (illustrations, different screenshots, what have you). It's not like these should be used outside your home, and you most likely know what these games require and have to offer, especially if you care about them enough to want to swap out the cover art...

Still, it's a nice idea.

EGM treats it's subscribers like SHIT. I never get anything extra when it comes to EGM and I've got a subscription (that my mom paid off without telling me, so now I have surprise crappy EGM in my mailbox every month). I usually just go to wal mart and steal the posters that I never get. I stole that DMC3 poster they had the other month, totally worth it. Fuck you EGM.

Not to mention the fact that I (and other subscribers I know) get their mag well after it's already been on the newsstand for a week or two...why do I subscribe to this magazine again?

You subscribe to it to get it delivered to your house for 25% of the price of buying it at the store every month ;) So it's not like your getting NOTHING by being a subscriber. You save a lot of money.

Get them like they were mailed to you? Or you could download them?

It's cheaper that way.

He mailed them to us, which in my opinion was above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks again Mark. :)

I get it like a week after the scores are posted and shit on here, and the fact that I do take the time to subscribe means that I should at least get some boxart covers, would it kill them? :lol

Just want to say I want to stab whoever thought it would be a good idea to print the box covers so that they're printed double sided (Zelda on the back of God of War, etc).

But big ups to SeanBaby for his column this month, which ranks up there as one of his best, and makes up for the flaccid columns from the past six issues or so... God, the Airwolf NES review is GOLD.
