A new course, looks like something you'd see in Ridge Racer

Also a new manufacturer interview and car vs. Enthusia comparison.

Those Mitsubishi PR guys are pretty worthless for interviewing. Is mitsubishi's buisness side all about the suck?

I am so buying that wheel.

wow - i saw the TV advert for this game last night and it didn't look anywhere near as good as those shots. :(

Whoa what are you saying? That these might be hi-res cleaned up shots? That they tricked us into thinking the PS2 does 40XFSAA? No I dont believe you.

So that excuses them right ?

Yes, I'd say so.

It has become increasingly common for companies to release high-resolution, anti-aliased shots of upcoming games. The content shown in the pictures generally represents the content you will see on your screen, but the resolution and image quality is simply increased. It is so common and so obvious that I really am unable to understand how it could actually bother anybody anymore.

The thing is, what appears good on a television may end up looking pretty poor when viewed on a high-resolution computer monitor. A frame buffer grab, for example, is going to appear more pixelated and ugly than what most people will see on their TVs (HD included). Just accept the fact that this type of shot is incredibly common and enjoy them while also realizing the rather obvious truth behind them.

EDGE had a preview of the game this month, and they used the word dull to describe it and said it needed quite a bit of work prior to release to move it from the ordinary.

Not really surprising given what the US GT4 Producer said about it.

What did they say exactly? It sounds like enthusia is a racing-sim in the same way Falcon 4.0 is a flight sim. Falcon 4 is boring compared to Ace Combat 04/05 if you're looking for action and excitment, but it's cooler for someone who wants "simulation." I'm sure the same can be said about Enthusia. No mods, and fewer cars/tracks than GT4 and likely worse graphics. It's all about the physics and not everyone wants realistic physics.

Here is what GT4 should have done for their damage system:

"Your Enthu Points decreases when driving off course or colliding with others cars and fences. If your Enthu Points reach zero, you won't be able to enter next week's race."

Notice the little yellow bar on the bottom right:

As much as I love the license tests in GT4 I think I am really going to enjoy Enthusia's time attack mode. Something else GT4 should have done:

"Taking shortcuts or hitting walls raises black flags. This does not disqualify you from the time attack, but will be recorded as a black-flagged time.

*You can still challenge yourself with the best black-flagged time, running across walls or using shortcuts. This can add a new dimension to the game."

Enthusia is putting back the 'game' into simulation. *Crosses fingers they pull through*

The Enthu Points look like a grab from the Sega GT2002/Online damage meter. No visible damage there either, but the damage meter and resulting award money penalties were a nice incentive for avoiding Sony GT-style shenanigans such as surfing the sides of competitor cars around corners and instead keeping racing precise and clean.

Actually, as much as I rate this game, I'm expecting this to have some pretty average or below average review scores. Last time I played it, the game was very sim (and I hope they haven't changed anything), most of the people I saw playing it were spinning and crashing at least 2 or 3 times a lap.

I hope the reviewers mark it through 'sim' eyes instead of reviewing it as a game trying to compete with GT4.

Konami is being really stupid not releasing this for the PC (where there isn't a comparable game at all) and to a lesser degree xbox.

"I assume one of these TV ads is what you are referring to?

Yeah, saw the second one.

I actually saw the game running today and it looks sweet. I understand the purpose of the second commercial, but it just looked a little unimpressive compared to the first commercial.

"Whoa what are you saying? That these might be hi-res cleaned up shots? That they tricked us into thinking the PS2 does 40XFSAA? No I dont believe you."

nope , just that i could do with the next gen coming right now so the games do actually look this good.

oh no!!!

i hated that system in Metropolis Street Racer for DC. because, if the gameplay isnt exactly balanced, that points can be really annoying.

No wonder EDGE said it was boring, I just read the article and it says they only played a version with the Free Race mode. Heh, that's not even the main mode to the game (Enthusia Life is the main mode).

It's coming out in 3 weeks time here in Japan. We'll see what the sim-driving gamers will have to say about this one.
