New Final Fantasy XII info

The opening FMV is a freaking 17 minutes one. You can't skip it, nor any other FMV in the game.

YOU CAN'T SKIP ANY FMV'S?!?!?!?! WTF!!!!

You can skip in FFX-2

First two points are stupid. Bleh. Give me a quicksave option at least

I don't mind FMVs, but I do mind long FMVs - 17 minutes is a very long time to wait before you get to play the game.

Maybe the save points are scarce because the game is easy?

Every FF game except 2, 3 (japanese) and 5 are easy. What's your point?

I think not being able to skip FMVs is stupid also. Then again, you couldn't skip FMVs or lengthy cinematic scenes in FF7-FF8, right?

Sounds promising.

Would anyone mind explaining this 'Kingdom Heart continue feature'? I have never played the game myself.

That's news to me, I'm almost positive I've skipped FMV sequences before...

why would you want to?

Because if I restart a section I don't want to have to view a particular FMV I've already seen.

Seems like a really random thing to mention..... I mean first time through at the very least you wouldn't want to skip them and skipping one by accident would such more then anything. >.<

Ok I think there's been some terrible mistranslation here. Here's what the news post was saying:

- The FF12 Produciton Committee has finally completed their work on the game.
- The game will DEFINITELY meet the release date this time.
- The movies in the game do not have a skip function.
- Within the game the movies can go up to 17 mins long. (ZOMG ASCII ART)
- Save points are scarce, but exist.
- There is a continue function.
- There are minigames.

And the main issue of the entire news is "HOLY SHIT HAS FFXII FINALLY GONE GOLD?!".

There's nothing here about credits or an opening FMV in particular.

Edit: Reading the comments on the actual article, many people are simply guessing as to what the 17min comment really meant. Some are guessing its the ending movie, while one guy speculated that it's the opening movie. There is also a speculation that there are ONLY 17mins of FMV in the entire game (haha :P) and the rest are all realtime cutscenes. But seeing how none of these posters are the insider who gave the information in the first place, it's all guesswork.

I can deal with one super huge cutscene in the beginning and mostly gameplay for the rest of the title. Xenosaga-esque CG masturbation I loathe to no end so I pray that intro isn't indicative of what lies beyond.

EDIT: Thanks for clearing that up duckroll. I shall pray to the gaming gods that this one doesn't turn out to be XenoFantasy XII.

They should make the FMVs skippable, but catalogue them so you can replay them later. Heck sometimes when I play games just want to progress.

I've never played Kingdom Hearts. What I'd really like to see is a Dragon Quest-style game over, in which you don't lose anything except half your gold and you're back at your most recent save point.

If FFXII's layout is like the demo's, chances are you get to continue the level you were just at if you die in it. And return either to right before that level or to your last save point, losing nothing?

When you die, you can choose to continue from the last battle you entered or the last area you entered. Skies of Arcadia had this feature too.

edit: fuck beaten!

Because it's stupid... and you'd think after so many years of going through the same issues, developers would learn.

Metal Gear Fantasy XII?

considering you no longer have to think in combat, it seems it will be.

In FF1-10 you could hold down the attack button to get through battles. Nothing "thoughtful" about that...

And you better be thinking in Active Mode (in FFXII) cuz you'll get killed real fast if you don't.

So basically, shut up.

Square PR hype has fucking failed us. FFXII's pre release hype is the worst I have ever seen with a Final Fantasy. Granted, I've been a fan since 1997.

Actually the FFXII hype is just about right for me. The hype is very, very similar to how they handled FFT and Vagrant Story, especially in Japan. You knew very little aside from the assurance that the games would be more strategic and rather complex in both gameplay depth and storyline elements.

Also, your mistranslations have failed us all. :(

We still don't. :(

Actually, you can set parameters in the menus for what you want a certain character to do during a situation. For example, you can have your WHM heal a character when his/her hp goes under 12% or cast "holy" when he/she is attacked a certain way. I'm sure it's much deeper than that, but that is the basics of it, atleast from what I saw in a recent japanese magazine scan-fest.

17 minutes of straight CG? Either it's some heavily compressed shit or mixes it up with real-time graphics. edit: Nevermind. :P

Only thing I want to know about FFXII if it has a huge overworld or what. Only thing Square shows is the same town/city over and over.

I just need my SE RPG fix.....its been so long. I don't care if its Meg Ryan against the world.....just let me play it!

(With that said, waiting for Meg Ryan vs World pics to pop up)

This is the biggest selling point for me too.. taking for granted that FFXII has taken almost forever to come out, the hype surrounding it is more like that of a boiling pot with a lid. Once you open it up, you get hit in the face with steam and then the aroma's of whatever you are cooking which usually follow in salivating until the consumption of said cooked meal. Oh yes, I am presuming FFXII to be a metaphor for a full course meal!

In all seriousness, I just want to play it so I can experience some proper Matsuno love.. whether or not he is involved or not anymore, he still did do most of the hard yakka - something he hasn't really been done "properly" since Vagrant Story.

Himuro said:
True. But since this is Matsu fucking uno, I'm positive it will have strategy. Remember, this is a demo.

Is he at square? the rumors spoke that he did not complete the game he started.

I think of him as the revivor of FF but his absence of leave, i don know...

Matsuno created the FFXII world, made the game design decisions, wrote the scenario/script, and directed everything that would become FFXII. Then something happened, and he got sick. Itoh and Minagawa took over the director's seat to complete the game. There's no indication that the game we'll be getting is not 100% of Matsuno's vision. Just that he was too sick to oversee it completely. He's still credited for Original Work, Scenario Plot and Supervision. Before taking over as overall directors, Itoh was in-charge of directing the gameplay systems while Minagawa was in-charge of graphics and character motion.

Himuro said:
So does Matsuno have any input at all?

Considering FFXII at E3 way back when it was first playable was 100% Matsuno, and FFXII now seems to be largely the same, just more complete. I would say yes.

A 17 min intro sounds fantastic assuming it's done right and set's the story, characters, setting, etc.

Someone that knows, answer: Does Matsuno getting "sick" with some never-mentioned illness or condition mean he was fired, or that he went crazy?

I've wondered that myself. I highly doubt he got fired, but some sort of mental blowout could be likely.

I remember reading somewhere someone saying something about eye cancer.

... yeah.

If all goes well this will be the best game of all time because of how long it's been in development

By that logic Duke Nukem Forever will be the greatest game of all eternity.

He wasn't fired. It was definitely some sort of illness, very possibly a mental one. Maybe one day he woke up and realized that Japan wasn't the Ivalice he so desired and lost it. :lol
