Holy shit these look good, i want one now
Winged Creature said:well you have to realise that the hi-md is meant more for recording, the added mp3 playback makes it a good player now rather then a mediocre one. The sound quality of recordings and playback is second to none on the Hi-MD, yes i know im a MD whore
Shogmaster said:Is it a professional quality recording device with proper input for microphones? Is it limited to ATRAC format for recording compression?
Winged Creature said:It has an opitcal in and a mic in.ATRAC isnt the only recording type it also supports 16 bit linear PCM at 44.1khz ( true cd quality) for recording and playback, i dunno if it can record to mp3 though, i doubt it
Some minimilast news on that frontaoi tsuki said:i really wish Sony would stop shoehorning the JogDial into their products. They did the same thing with the Clies until the end, and finally introduced left and right buttons (like on the one of their three last models released in the US. Pocket PCs and later Palms had the more functional 5-way navigation, while Sony stuck with JogDial. It was good for it's time, but it's outdated.
The RH10 looks great, but the buttons and the JogDial and its bevel kill the smooth front and reduce effect of the sleek OLED, which was ripped from the . i'd love to see that type of display on an Hi-MD player, with an inline scroll wheel like the iPod's, or even the RH710's functional wheel. And where's the remotes?
Hopefully this means we'll see a new line of Network Walkmans, and a reduction in price of the older NWs. With a 20GB hard drive and a 30-hour playback time as it's only saving grace, the NW-HD3s are way overpriced.

NW-HD3 in red
Edit: Just realized the NW-HD3s were released only a month or so ago. There probably won't be any more NWs announced until early fall.![]()
Yeah, i just finished reading a 26-page thread on Head-Fi about the NW-HD3 and found a link to that article. Sony's been making incremental steps to get back into the portable music game with their MD and NW lines, and i think some usability improvements along with better retail penetration could really give them a competitor to the iPod. i'd really like to see what these new units offer, and hope they improve on SorryStage, which is the weakest link at the moment. i also hope they get on the ball with firmware updates.Fresh Prince said:Some minimilast news on that front

Late 2005\Eary 2006 it seems
some site said:Capable of storing audio, video and data files on your HI-MD disc (Word, Powerpoint, ATRAC, MP3, JPEG, MPEG, etc)
THE EYE said:Does this mean they act as a usbmass device now? Man, I have to get one of these. This seems like everything MD should have been a few years ago.
Only thing I'd like is support for more formats. Ogg Vorbis, for example.
The M3 looks slick (and supports FLAC... <3), but i need something with a display on the unit, especially with a few thousand songs.Ghost said:![]()

Ghost said:On topic, how do the stealth LCD screens work?
A unit with a display and an optional remote is more flexible than one with the display only on the remote. i prefer to have this flexibility, even if it means buying the remote separately. Remote cords can be a hassle and remotes in general attract attention, especially in the summer when i can't wear a jacket to conceal them.Ghost said:After using the M3 i cant see why anyone would need a screen on the unit (for music) unless they use their MP3 player at a desk (id just be using my PC if that were the case). Whenever im on the move the player stays on my belt and i can still see exactly whats playing through the remote thats clipped to the inside of my jacket. I've never even touched the controls on the player (other than to flick the switch to lock them).
Get something that doesnt do everything you want then i guess.
Anyway, sorry to derail the thread.
