You know I never imagined it to be a regular bath towel...

And THAT's supposed to be Zaphod Beeblebrox? (Left to right: Zaphod?, Trillian, Marvin, Ford)??

I thought the guy from The Office was in this movie? Is he the main character (Arthur Dent?)?

Edit: Nevermind... IMDB is my friend!

Apparently Zaphod does have his second head...

It's either up his nose or under his chin, and he is afraid to sneeze because of there it is. That is apparently a Douglas Adams change.

Yes, he's just not in that shot.

Ok, another question (I haven't been keeping up on this movie)... Is the movie just based on the first book, and is it going to cover all the books?

I believe it's just the first book, but not entirely sure.

What happened was Douglas Adams was writing the screenplay for the movie when he died. After that they decided out of respect to not do the movie, but a few years later his family decided that he would've wanted to see it finished so they picked up the project again and did some minor tweaks to his screenplay.

Mos Def's head looks very much off to one side - I'm guessing the second head is to be CGed in later.

Mos Def is the guy on the right.. his head's not titled... the other guy on the left, on the other hand (Zaphod)...

Sam Rockwell is Zaphod?? (imdb)... man, didn't recognize him from that photo!!!

And Zaphod looks a bit like a pirate in this shot... not what I imagined from the book.

That's pretty much what I imagined Zaphod Beeblebrox to be like (suit/cape hybrid, pretty boy/ladies man), except with two heads instead of one. It would have been hard to film two heads I guess without major CG and timing of actors' responses to two different actors (or even Sam Rockwell delivering two sets of lines), so I'm OK with just one head. But if DA wrote it out of the screenplay himself I'm OK with the change. For some reason I had Jeff Goldblum pegged as Ford Prefect, don't ask me why. Of course, I haven't read all of the Hitchhiker's books yet (just the first and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe), so maybe they describe Ford as being black? Doesn't matter to me, Mos Def definitely has shown acting chops before, so I look forward to seeing him in this role. Marvin is definitely not what I had envisioned (I pictured the Iron Giant, albeit reduced to 6-7 feet). And who's the cutie playing Trillian?

Not how I pictured Marvin, but he looks awesome. Looks like a live action Gir from Invader Zim.

Is it ok to start hoping that this movie will actually be awesome?

PS. I, too, never pictured Ford as black. Was it mentioned in any of the books (I have read them all)?

I'm no expert... although I did read all the books... but even though I always assumed that Ford was white, perhaps he never was described as any particular race whatsoever. I just know that he didn't stand out while he was in England with Arthur.

When I first heard Jim Carrey's name associated with this movie I thought he'd make a perfect Zaphod. But after watching Eternal Sunshine he could have been a good Arthur. Whoever plays Ford simply has to be able to spout some pretty ridiculous things all the while appearing very calm and sane.

Oh, and roofles, iapetus. Def from right.

Douglas Adams himself said that he never wanted there to be an single version of HHGTTG. Each version: the books, the TV show, the movie are all designed to be different to take advantage of the medium.

One change he made for the movie screenplay was adding a new character named Humma Kavula played by John Malkovich. Also, the shapes of the Heart of Gold and Marvin are new. As for Ford Prefect being black, his skin color wasn't ever mentioned in the book. Just that he looked indeterminately "odd".

BTW, he's wearing his towel in that picture. =)

Looks to me like they're adding Zaphod's second head with CG. His head is tilted to his left and there appears to be a neck protruding out from the other side.

The cast confirmed that the second "head" comes out from underneath Zaphod's chin. Douglas Adams change or not, it's still a motherfucking copout. Still, it's a bit strange that in every single picture I've seen of Zaphod Sam Rockwell is always tilting his head to his left.

And er, *none* of them look remotely how I imagined them. Zaphod, specially. He looks way too human-like, despite the second head and third arm. :p

That's Sam Rockwell? Flippin' 'eck.

And the more I look at it the more I like the new Marvin. And if there CGing the 2nd head wouldn't there some sort of reference markers for its height/shape? I rather the rumoured Adams rewrite of the position of the head, though, than a shoddy CG version.

Ford Prefect

GAAAAAAAAY
Holy crap! That is so awesome. Zooey is a perfect Trillian. Rockwell looks completely as he should, and Mos Def looks really great, despite the race change! I cannot wait for this to come out.....

Whats the dude from Nickelback doing in there

Wait, a second. You said that and not a single note from a Nickelback song came into my head. That's never happened to me before. I'm cured. Nickelback has been forever erased from my mind. This is a happy day.
