New Hot Hot Heat album sucks ass; folks that have seen them live are unsurprised

I saw them when they toured with the Walkmen ( :) ) and I thought they were quite good. They played a small club, but it was packed. After that show, I couldn't even listen to the album anymore because it sounded so bland.

Am I just overrating their performance or did the cosmos align that night?

but... but.. Talk to Me, Dance with Me had cowbells!
Yeah, but it didn't have enough. In fact, had they removed everything else and just left the cowbell, it would've been a much better song.

Dumb Canucks.

Make Up the Breakdown was good album back when it first came out. Elevator sounds almost the same, but for some reason it's not very good. Mystery!

i saw them opening up for the pattern. moving units opened the show. it was a pretty amazing show. but i mean everyone left after HHH and for good reason. anyway. they used to be really good, now they suck, shocker!

I got a hold of the new CD a couple weeks ago. Yawned my way through it. Just really wasn't that great at all.

White Man and I saw them live and they were awful. Just poor stage presence. It was if they haven't played live in almost two years, which was true.

I'm not big on Hot Hot Heat, but I don't think the album is half as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Nothing horrible, nor special. Though I can't really speak for their live show. I haven't seen them live since like 2002 or so.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it "sucks ass", it's merely okay whereas their debut was great. And.. linking to a Pitchfork review... don't you know better White Man?

Pitchfork has a lot of reviews that are fun to read if you pretend they're not reviews of anything.

Saw a video for the single, and the singer has a head of curly locks!

Yeah, he had a fro when I saw em live.

It's the only place that's reviewed it, and it's pretty spot on.

I've just given the album a listen, and "Inoffensive" is how I'm deeming it. The single is a song that could have been a hit single in the Summer, but will do alright now I guess, and there is little here I'd call "shit". Is it really good? No. Is Make Up the Breakdown better? Yes. But this in no way sucks ass. Hell, a 5.3 from Pitchfork isn't "sucks ass" anyways.

Being chronically uninteresting is worse than being obviously bad.

It's still better than the Mars Volta record, but that's like saying a bottle of anal douche is better than the scattered bodily fluids you'd find on a German porn set.

It's nowhere as good as Make Up the Breakdown, but Elevator has a few really good tracks (Island of the Honest Man, You Owe Me An IOU, Goodnight, Goodnight, Running Out of Time). Overall it's a decent pop album, I would have given it a 6.5. They gave The Killers a 5.2 for crying out loud, Elevator isn't THAT bad. I think there's still hope for them in album 3, but that's a shame to hear about their live show.

So would it be worth it for me to pick up some tickets if Louis XIV and the Futureheads are the openers?
The Futureheads are pretty decent, but Louis XIV - holy shit: worst single of the past five years. Stay away.
