I know we've been having these threads alot but I think its time for us all to share our new finds in the world of music anything up and coming or something old you just discovered.

Well this summer consisted of a little bit of jam bands but I have to say umphrey's mcgee's new cd is amazing and soo well written. Its old school rock mixed with jam bands and metal.

Now ive been calming down and listening to some jazz so I went to the cd and saw these guys live at the fat cat and they where amazing 3 set of pure jazz bliss.

Dios - s/t
Awesome debut album by a group of guys from Hawthorne, California. Great melodies, some psycholdelia, some rock, some indie, laid back goodness. Recommended track: Starting Fifty

The Long Winters - When I Pretend to Fall
Thier second album, and probably more accessible of the two. Recommended track: Shapes
B00008XS3H.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

The Places - Call it Sleep
I think this is thier second album. I like Amy's voice, and guitar work, and the whole album seems to be pretty dreamy and sleeplike or something (not in that it is boring, but just peaceful). Recommended Tracks: Birds are Waking, Dead Reckoning

I keep trying to get more people to at least try Say Anything's ...Is a Real Boy, but I've not had much luck. One of the better things I've heard this year.

I just discovered Vienna Teng last week. She's got a great voice and writes some pretty good songs. If you like female vocals...

Get "Gravity", "Between", and "Lullabye for a Stormy Night."

I got both of her CDs off of eMusic and out of 25 songs, there are only two or three I even think about skipping, and they aren't even that bad, just not as great as some of her other stuff.

yeah, she's pretty awesome. check out "the tower", i love that song.

People that like some laidback music to remember the summer should not sleep on this shit. It's a duo that excists out of the Dutch producer Nicolay and Little Brother MC Phonte. I tell you, this album is so fucking nice, just hear for yourself.

Yeah, fart & I have both mentioned it in "listening too" threads, and it did get a pretty good review at PFM, but no one seems to be pickin' up on it, so I'll pimp it some more:

AK041.jpg

This album fucking slays, kids. Pidgeon will kill you, and you'll love every second of it. It goes all over the map, from softer poppy songs to all out 3 guitar mayhem. By far one of the most interesting, loud, wild records I've heard this year. I like it more with every listen. There's some demos you can download on their website if you want to check them out. Here's a direct link to the mp3s if you're lazy. Listen to them. Love them. Then get bummed because Absolutely Kosher (unfortunately, seeing as they're my favorite label) has absolutely abysmal distribution. Then order it, and wait for it to arrive in your hot little hands. I think that AKR records are available at the iTunes music store, too, if you're so inclined (I'm not).

Get it.

The Vells -- Flight From Echo Falls
Fantastic psychedelic pop album that just came out on September 7th. Features Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse. Limited to 2,000 copies, it should be available from their record label shortly. www.imputor.com

019big.gif

The Velvet Teen -- Elysium
Second full-length from this San Francisco band. "Guitars were abandoned entirely for the project and were replaced by pianos, strings, woodwinds and synthetic elements, making the production of the album our most ambitious to date."

eastcover.jpg

The Turn-Ons -- East
Shoegazer pop from Seattle.

i think they have a bunch (like 4? albums) they have the new one, the one with all the stupid samples before the tracks and then the one after that. and maybe one more.

anyway. great band. my most depressing show was watching them play in front of me and two of my friends. even the opening band left. it was so sad.

I don't think Sean is even in the band anymore. But I seemed to have missed something, what has he done thats so annoying?

Sorry, I tend not to keep up with what the people in bands are doing/saying.

Sean left the band to refrom Harvey Danger. Have you ever seen him in person? He is incredibly obnoxious, I don't think he knows how to shut up.

He is pretty good writer for The Stranger, however.

I've met Sean on a number of occasions, yet he always forgets that he did. Anyway, the guy is just a joke. He thinks he is this awesome songwriter and how great his bands have been, yet he looks like he is homeless. I'd beat the shit out of Sean, then kick Ben Gibbard in the head a couple times too.

i would pay you if that's what it takes to get you to hunt down ben and punch him in the face with a sledgehammer

anyways, i'm kind of on a new music fast while i'm at home and not near my fileserver. the upside is that the scene is really kicking up here and not down south but the downside is that i have no idea where this kicking scene is.

oh, so lammy, i'm probably going to miss that pidgeon show because i hate that bar and it's like 8 bucks with an 8 band bill. 15 minute sets are gay, dude.

If you like Lost in Space (hope you bought the special edition, the extra cd is amazingly worth it.

Also grab Bachelor #2 and the Magnolia Soundtrack

Yeah, I did as well, but I don't think I've seen them mentioned since the LP came out. I think there's more people listening to music now, so I figured another mention might be in order.

But Pidgeon will tear your head off in 15 minutes, there's no point in a 45 minute sets if you're headless.

It's alright. Go to Ween instead. ;)

The Advantage seems to be the music of choice in between sets at the house parties I've been to this past month. I could never remember the band name the next day though.

I snuck out from under my rock and purchased the Yeah Yeah Yeah's LP this past week. I'd seen them play on Letterman and Conan a few times and kept forgetting to pick up their CD until now.

Satomi is so cute. I would give it up for her, while whispering in her ear "I would die 4 u." Actually, I probably wouldn't. She was at the merch table after their set, and she kind of intimidated me because I'm like 2 feet taller than her.

She was adorable dancing around on stage with that apple and banana, though. I was impressed by how album-perfect they sounded live.

I actually just found out about this broken-up Welsh band called Catatonia a couple weeks ago. I don't know about the rest of their stuff, but the material on International Velvet is incredibly catchy. Their singer's got a really, really interesting voice. She's got a solo album out that I should check out.

I'd definitely check them out if you want something new and catchy. I don't know if the music is anything special, but man, their singer sounds really cool.

My favorite songs thus far are Road Rage, I Am the Mob, Part of the Furniture, and Strange Glue.

Check the samples out (how boring):http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...103-9161162-7633435?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

I'm rediscovering these two albums:

B000020617.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left To Lose

Even though I had the mp3s for almost five years, finally buying the CD made me rediscover this, what I now consider the best Foo Fighters album, in all likelihood. I'm still undecided, however. It was unfortunate that as big of a FF fan that I am, I kind of wrote this album off for not being enough like The Colour And The Shape. The song Ain't It The Life is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

B0000C17KK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Saves The Day - In Reverie

Even though I listened to this album quite a bit when it came out this time last year, having just received the limited edition from the UK made me take a critical listen to it. Very interesting what they've acheived here. It alienated a bunch of STD fans, but damn if I don't think it's at least their second best work, right behind Stay What You Are. The title of the album is perfect, because the whole record sounds like a dream. It's like Dream-Rock, if there was such a genre. Very melodic, with sweet, syrupy harmonies, and great, catchy guitar parts. For fans of excellent guitar pop music, a'la futuristic Beatles inspired sound, this album is highly recommended.

I liked their first CD...I mean, it was just good. but this cd is simply amazing. Just perfect...they've mastered the art of combining screaming and singing.

The band is so tight live too. Just incredible energy, and the guitarists frequently get together in rock in unison. And Travis always plays the solo in Lip Gloss and Black with the guitar on his back, behind his head(see picture in avatar).

Too bad they're going on tour with Taking Back Sunday, Funeral for a Friend, and some other shitty band =x
