New Nanostray DS impressions + media (IGN)

http://ds.ign.com/articles/628/628683p1.html

Visually, it's some of the best looking 3D on the Nintendo DS thus far. In the current build there are bouts of slowdown when too much "stuff" is going on the screen; when the display fills with a dozen enemies, a massive mother ship, some fog effects, and the player's flying bullets, it's not surprising that the game hits the occasional slowdown glitch, but hopefully this will be ironed out by the time the game ships next month.

Nanostray capitalizes on the Nintendo DS system's single cartridge multiplayer for a variety of two player competitive modes.

The game, so far, is an energetic blast on the Nintendo DS, and a really great non-sequel sequel to the already solid GBA Iridion II. Any fan of classic shooters from the 8 and 16-bit days, or even Ikaruga on the current generation consoles, should really give this game a serious look. Thankfully, we've grabbed a new batch of video so you can see just how wild Nanostray is turning out on the system. We'll have a full review when the game ships on July 19.

Watching the videos reminds me so much of Darius, especially the warning alert. This will be my most anticipated title after I get Meteos next week. They don't mention any 2 player co-op though, which I remember reading it somewhere. Anyhow, can't wait!

I say this in every Nanostray thread, but Iridion II is fucking hot, and methinks this game will be too.

The impressions got me very excited for this. I was just mildly interested before. Plus Drinky said it'll probably suck so it'll probably be terrific.

Yeah, I can't wait for this. It's been one of my most anticipated NDS titles since it was announced.

Don't forget Pac 'N Roll & Advance Wars: Dual Strike in August! (And Nintendogs for Drinky)

Same here. I haven't played my DS much in a few months, just the PSP (and only Wipeout), but now I'm back to DS again, probably for a while.

Oh, and I just watched the Nanostray videos. Definitely awesome looking.

I'm really really digging the fact that most DS games, even ones that you wouldn't expect, are including multiplayer. Often times several different modes of multiplayer. I'm a multiplayer whore. That's part of the reason I dug Rare's 64 line-up so much. Even when it didn't fit too well, you could be assured that a game like banjo-tooie or whatever would have several 4P options. It was never the quality multiplayer of like, Goldeneye or Mario Party, but it at least gave you that CHOICE when you had friends over. We'd hit that shit up occasionally when we were sick of my other games.

The DS is turning out to be the same way. Games like Bomberman are the multiplayer staples, but Mr. Driller, Yoshi, and now this at least have that option. Fucking shame about WW Touched, though.

I can't really see any pixellation in this game...do they use some kind of filter or just high detailed texture maps?

There's a very minute bit of it here and there, but it really helps that the texturing is excellent all around.

I wonder if Mars Matrix could be done on the DS......? If so <3

In regards to Nanostray, this game is helping solidify my purchase of the system. It really seems to be a snowball rolling down towards the golden valley of portable goodness.

Talking about a rolling ball, what is Sega waiting to announce Super Monkey Ball on the DS?
