New OXM Scores - including Madden

Yeah, because the NFL isn't known for making their license exclusive

So you admit you were wrong now? Thats how it went down, don't try to defend EA when they are guilty of bringing the whole idea of exclusivity to the table.

Madden 2006, choose mom and dad!

or maybe you should... holy shit... RENT OR BUY THE GAME! wtf!!!!!!!

Actually what I do is read all the reviews I can find, see what they have to say about it, and how that compares to what I care about. And then I go and purchase the game. The very definition of thinking for myself. Not exactly the same thing as OMG ITS TEH *insert name of large franchise*. And before you label me as a 2kwhore, I always purchased Madden because what reviewers said made me think it was the better game. Money is not a concern for me, so the whole 20$ thing wasn't a factor.

Let me pose you a hypothetical question. Two games game A and game B. You have always purchased game A, but this year every reviewing source gives game A the lowest score possible. We're talking bottom of the barrel. And every other rewvier gives game B high marks. Which game would you buy?

So you are saying its EA that made the NFL make an exclusive deal with DirectTV?

Damn, EA is POWERFUL!

"We (EA) have proposed exclusivity several times in the past, but this year, in the spring the NFL had an off-site meeting, and they decided to consider bids for exclusivity," Brown told IGN in an exclusive interview. "Several bids were submitted but they accepted EA's. I cannot tell you how much this cost, but exclusivity is expensive, we are paying a premium. It wasn't cheap. I can tell you this, though, all parties all happy with this agreement, and Wall Street seems happy with it too."

of course doing a direct comparisson where one game in the same field gets a 10 as the other gets a 1 will raise an eyebrow. but if we were talking madden vs. nfl 2kx (for instance), no matter what the reviews say i would always buy madden first. even when nfl 2kx was $30 cheaper.

one good thing (bad thing to some) you can expect out of a game like madden is that the core gameplay doesn't change radically. that's not to say tiburon doesn't improve the game, but when you play madden you know you're playing madden

Oh and by the way

Wait, I'm no English guru, but when you're talking about something that belongs to something else, don't you use an apostrophe? eg.

Jane's purse
Bob's shoes
Gary's leg
It's back

I'm not correcting you, I'm just wondering because this is how I write.

So maybe Madden deserves an 8.0. That doesn't mean it's the evil score of death OMG ESPN LOVERS nor does it mean it's the WORST GAME EVER.

Jesus, half of you whiners haven't even watched football in your life.

It's = It is
Its = It (possessive)

I'm not arguing that EA IN THE PAST made bids at the NFL, where have I said they didnt? Im saying when THIS deal went down it was the NFL who were the aggressors, yet you guys continuely think EA did some Jedi mind trick. The NFL is all about exclusive use of their license, with beer, with NFL Sunday Ticket, soft drinks, and now video games. Suck it up, the NFL wanted EA in their bed and not Take2.

Also

Several bids were submitted but they accepted EA's.

I wonder who these other bids were... :lol

who gives a shit whether EA approached the NFL or vice versa? so you can say "OOOH EA WAS CLEARLY SCARED OF COMPETITION!!" give me a fucking break

Heh, well if you take whats he's saying to be true, that EA approached them a long long time ago. Then the whole "scared of competition" argument loses all backing because a long long time ago they HAD no competition.

NFL2Kx got dissed on these boards relentlessly about cribs, so Madden does deserve a little ribbing over that weak ass RPG mode :lol

As far as the review, can't win I guess. If it got a 10 the Madden fans would be saying "hail to the king bitches"...yada yada.. I'm gonna get Madden this year anyway though, cause there are certain games I don't pay attention to the review scores over. Too bad as usual I'll get the PS2 version, and watch everyone here have fun on the Xbox leagues heh

Like I said, have fun with that 8.0 and getting those acting gigs in Madden. Sounds great! :)

seriously, you are either blind or retarded. let me point out the following to you:

1. the minigame/acting gigs aren't a "main feature" in madden 2006.
2. most of the people at GA have openly dissed on the feature, and even mocked it. it probably took EA a day to implement into the game
3. what makes you think the only mode of play is superstar mode?

it is clear to me that you have never owned madden or dont play it. why bother talking about a game you know jackshit about? oh wait, your awesome sarcasm/wit is going to make us change our minds about buying madden

change of plan fellas madden 2006 already sucks balls. FUCK YOU EA YOU WASTED MY TIME!

OXM has their heads entrenched firmly up their asses when it comes to hockey. They gave NHL 2005 an 8.5, and it was one of the worst sports games ever created. I'll be playing both games and judging myself before I trust their feedback on anything hockey-related.
Yep - sexy AND wise.

You have serious issues, and I owned both 2K5 and Madden 2005 but because I'm not a Madden whore I could never have possibly owned a Madden game because god knows I would bow down to it and worship it every night I live like you. Do yourself a favor....drop the keyboard try leaving the house once and call us in the morning.

all you do in every thread is talk shit on madden. i have never seen you inject any opinion on madden other than some sarcastic lame joke or negativity. what else am i to think?

who is us? and will you be waiting here at the gaming-age videogame message boards for me in the morning? when will you have time to go out?

Just chill man...........seriously how can you get so worked up about a football game?

:lol its a message board dude, im not running around the house naked in some primal anger stage. its just annoying to see people bitch and whine when there is no substance to the complaint. if HGPlayer wants to come in this thread, and tell me why madden sucks ass compared to NFL2kx, i will probably disagree with him but i can at least respect his opinion. why? because i know for a fact he was around for both games, played both games with him, and i have no doubt that is fact to him.

im not getting "all worked up" or pissed off, its just annoying friend of friends

I'm ripping on Madden all the time eh? Show me a post not in this thread where I'm ripping on Madden. My problem isn't with Madden really, the game is ok for me but I liked 2K5 better. My problem is with the many "football fans" on this board who ignore the faults of Madden 2005 and pretend it didn't have glitches and exploits galore or that that Madden bowl champion couldn't simply cheese til no end for victory. Just like MS fanboys, Sony fanboys, and Nintendo fanboys we have a different breed on this board who happen to be Madden fanboys and it's the only game in town now. Rather annoying really, but thats life.

If the shoe was on the other foot and NFL2K6 was the only game in town you would surely be bitching from sun up til sun down so don't act like you wouldn't. You bitch and moan still about how poor of a game 2K5 was, but heaven forbid someone give Madden a litte flack. Madden is ok, but I'll never purchase another EA game again until the exclusivity deal is over, and even then I might not purchase EA games.

Keep laughing, I'll have no problem skipping out on EA games. I didn't pick up NCAA 2006 and I'm not missing it so far. Plenty of other games to purchase besides EA titles, for me it's comparable to people that refuse to shop at Wal-Mart. Well I refuse to buy EA games, move on move on nothing to see here.

In the last 12 months I purchased

NCAA 2005

Fight Night Round 2

Madden 2005

NBA Live 2005

NBA Street V3

Burnout 3

No longer though, I'm done with EA.

Foot, meet mouth.

Buddy, pal... we don't ignore the glitches and exploits, nor do we ever claim Madden is a perfect game.

In fact, here are some of the rules from one of our Madden 2005 leagues. Our fourth and least popular season.

DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING*:

1. Call double Corner slot outside post patterns. What this means if you cannot call a play that has 4 wide receivers, and both of the slot (middle) wide receivers run slant patterns towards the sidelines. This is cheese, and is outlawed.

2. I'm not going to ban a regular slot outside post unless it becomes an epidemic. Listen guys, just because I dont ban it doesn't mean you SHOULD use it. Have some respect for your opponent and he will have respect for you. I haven't used that play since season 2, and I dont play on ever using it in season 3. Remember, be cool

3. No physically spreading the defensive line out (i.e. pushing the L button and then Up on the d-pad). This is cheap as hell and provides a ridiculous pass rush without blitzing. also, dont move your DE off the line of scrimage.

4. No manually Blitzing CB's or LB's.

http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=40792

Fact of the matter is this, friend, Madden is the far... far lesser of two evils. It's definitely not perfect, but it beats a lot of the glaring gamebreaking problems found in NFL2K5.

For what it's worth, think whatever you want about us GAF Hardcore Sportswhores, but EA-bots we are not. Just look at the multiple topics ripping the hell out of NCAA 2006... and rightfully so.

Edit: Couple of rules missing too... no double safety bluff D, no quarter stack D

For perspective, OXM scores for previous Maddens...

2005: 9.1
2004: 8.9
2003: 8.8
2002: 9.0
......
The Lowest Madden score ever is the last year it's on the console? Something is wrong here. This doesn't typically happen with any sports game, they're either steadily growing or declining or stayign in about the same place. This year is a .8 difference from the lowest score the series ever got from the publication. Either these numbers are fake or something changed in the magazine....or the game really deserves for reasons that weren't otherwise described as "Acting in movies (a script reading mini-game?)" (So it's a useless feature. Is it part of the game/THAT bad? Probably not), "Still slower than NCAA" (So was every other Madden that they gave an 8.8 or higher), and "Why is creat-a-fan still taking space on this disc?"(It's a cutscene....). I'm no madden whore in any sense of the word, but this is quite unusual for any sports game.

Many ridiculed the cribs mode on 2K even though it wasn't the core game, but now the shoe's on the other foot. So far it looks like some of the silly stuff for Madden is just as weird, if not more so. Personally I think it's hilarious in an enjoyable sideshow kind of way, as I did for the 2K stuff. Maybe they can combine the gonzo features and your co-star in the Movie Mode will be Steve-O.

There's a reason why the 2k games doesn't exist... it's simply because the mainstream voted with their dollar. Hey, I actually liked the 2k series at one point (2k3 was badass to me), but Madden is still King when it comes to overall gameplay.

Though I'd wish the two would combine together. I think the Madden series (please keep in mind I only own Madden 2002 for the 'Cube, feel free to flame on) is in dire need of good presentation, the interface could learn a thing or two from the 2k series, and the player models... heheheheheh. :)

But honestly, if there's one thing I truly want out of a football game (Madden 360 I'm looking at you) is the commentary aspect of it all.

I don't want a robot announcer talking anymore. I want a lively human being talking. I want to play a football game as if I was literally playing at the helm at QB. It's all I ask. And I think... I THINK... the tech today could give us that. Here's to hoping.

Dissappointed by Madden score but I'm still looking forward to playing it.

Got the new issue in the mail today...

Demo impressions

Mortal Kombat:Shaolin Monks: Aside from the demo not supporting 480P(I hate when they do that), it struck me as being a promising beat'em up. It looks like they've done a good job of including the little Mortal Kombat touches(Liu Kang has the special moves he had in the fighting games and they've worked in fatalities). I wished the demo had included the 2 player action(I've been waiting since the old days for a decent 2 player co-op beat'em up).

Incredible Hulk: An absolute blast. You totally feel like the Hulk as you go around beating up everything. I especially enjoyed turning a car into a pair of makeshift boxing gloves to pummel the tanks.

Rainbow 6:Lockdown: Live only demo so no impressions.

Call of Duty 2 Video

The only major problem is that the video is cropped so you're not seeing it in widescreen the way it should be plus you're not seeing it in high-def. Having said that...WOW. Soldiers everywhere(even after they're dead), amazing sound, and the smoke and particle effects are great.

P.S. Also a historical moment, the first print ad for a 360 game, Elder Scrolls:Oblivion on page 47.
