New PC RPGs

I've noticed, outside the MMO arena, this is a relatively dead category. We have Oblivion coming up soon, but it's generally like an MMO but without the annoying idiots. I'm talking games on the type and caliber of Baldur's Gate. Games that allow you to control entire parties of characters and go on epic quests.

Is there anything similar to the BG/IWD type of games coming out any time soon? I see Dungeon Seige 2 is coming out soon, but that'll be one character with minions ala NWN. Something with direct control over parties of 4+? I saw a game called Heretic Kingdoms while walking through Best Buy today. Any info on this at all?

What's a guy gotta do to get a BG fix these days?

Gothic 3, Oblivion and I wouldn't be suprised if a 3rd Divinity game is in the works.

EDIT: Guess it would help if I read the actual post. All the ones I mentioned are single character games. Don't know any real group RPGs outside of Dungeon Siege II which if they keep the scope of the first game can have big parties, up to 16 people if I remember right.

Use notepad ? The chicks really dig guys who use notepad for D&D.

There's still a bunch of PC RPGs in development from European developers, including party-based RPGs. Quality is probably suspect though =/ I'm keeping an eye out for Gothic 3, but it's not party-based. Have any details leaked on Dragon Age? Wondering if it will be more like BG or NVN.

And going back and replaying older RPGs is not a bad idea. I finally got around to installing Dosbox, and I've been replaying Ultima VI. Still an awesome game and a reminder that the genre really hasn't advanced that much in 15 years (or even gone backwards in ways).

As always another insightful and witty "zinger" to add to your stellar contributions to this forum.

You're right, I'm better off lurking in the shadows and waiting for some other person to let off a "zinger", then seizing the opportunity to lash out at said individual.

With little old troika games dead, all the staff from black isle essentially just turned into Obsidian(more and more every day), bioware's pawn, and bioware just doing console stuff

It's quite the easy to trace back why the genre is dead, almost everything good non diablo-style was coming from those 3 companies(coincidentally the renaissance was thanks to the success of tim cain's fallout which almost every game made by those 3 companies afterwards spiritually followed.
