Seattle rockers Pearl Jam have finished recording their currently
untitled new album. They completed the extensive recording process just
last week in Seattle.

Guitarist Stone Gossard believes that the unusually long recording
effort will be understood when the public hears the album. "This is the
best music, as a collective, that we have written... probably ever",
says Gossard. He says that "while we have experimented and extended
ourselves once again, the simplicity and edge of our writing this time
can be heard - these songs are all ones we are very proud of".

While a lot of the album is "as heavy and bone-crunching as our earlier
material", Gossard is most proud of the melodic songs such as "Dawn" -
written over 4 months by co-guitarist Mike McCready - and the Who-like
"Alarms Of Nautical", by Gossard himself.

"We are always expected to have a heavy tilt in our songs, and we have
done that here and love doing that. But this album feels more than a
bunch of rock songs like our last couple... and not to demean those...
but this was a massive ride for us, a big jump, and we hope it can be
heard".

The first song, "To Our Home", is a quiet song by lead singer Eddie
Vedder, unmistakeably about his new baby girl. "Yeah we let Ed indulge
on that one a bit there, but it is a fantastic, pretty track to start
off. After that we blow the amps (laughs)".

The track listing is as follows:

01. To Our Home (Vedder)
02. Marker (Gossard/Vedder)
03. Dawn (McCready)
04. Crapshoot Rapture (Gossard/McCready/Ament)
05. Worldwide Suicide (Gossard/McCready)
06. Severed Hand (Vedder)
07. Echoes (Vedder/Gossard/McCready/Ament/Cameron)
08. Cold Concession (Cameron)
09. Alarms Of Nautical (Gossard)
10. The Streets (Vedder)
11. Of The Earth (Vedder/Gossard/McCready/Ament/Cameron)

The first single (to be released in November) will be "Echoes" with the
non-album B-Sides "Thank You" and "I Believe In Miracles Live 9/1/05".
The band, currently on tour in Canada, will visit Latin America in
November before releasing the album in early December. Although no
certain dates have been made, manager Kelly Curtis has confirmed a
possible 2006 tour of Australia and New Zealand, followed by a
full-scale visit to Europe.

How is PJ these days? I love their first two albums, really like half of the third (Vitology) and dested #4. I have not heard much of them since.

You should check out Yield, it's along the same lines as the first two albums.

In fact I haven't picked up a PJ cd since. The last two were very murky and uninteresting IMO.

Riot Act is good stuff indeed.

And besides, even if you're not into any of their new stuff, just go download a concert. Any concert, doesn't matter. You'll get 2.5-3 hrs of amazing live music and I garauntee you that the live versions of the songs will be infinitely better than their album counterparts.

Same sentiment here. Ten and Vs. kick ass, and Yield is a great album, but everything else is just the definition of "meh."

Heh, it's been a pretty nice month for Pearl Jam. Vedder did a guest spot on the last U2 show in Toronto last month, a favour that Bono repaid at PJ's concert the following night. Then PJ opened up last Monday for the Stones, and a few nights later did a small Katrina benefit in Chicago with Robert Plant. Talk about keeping good company.

'go' is my song of the week. haven't heard anything past vitalogy, though.

For some reason I've been listening to Binaural a lot lately. I really like it, just as long as you skip Evacuation. Has this really mellow mood about it.

Hope Matt Cameron is kicking some ass on the new album. You Are was the best from Riot Act.

The new album isn't expected till early next year.
And no one knows much more then that, except that we have heard two new songs live, crapshoot and gone(expected to be a b-side, and obtainable from www.pearljamonline.it, look under j.fmp3)

can't wait till i get some real news.
cya.
:( people are stupid.

and like fallout said, any of their live shows (but maybe not from this current tour) would kick your ass. I say not this tour because this one is comprised of more b-sides and other material than usual. Though, if they make the House of Blues show available for download/cd purchase, get on that.

no code always caught a lot of flack for being a 'not so hot' album, but i picked it up about a year ago and i think it might be my favorite. a lot of people think pearl jam fell off the earth because they don't really get radio play anymore, but they're still putting out solid material that is well worth hearing.

No Code might actually be my favourite as well. These tracks absolutely rule:

Sometimes
Who You Are
Red Mosquito
Present Tense
I'm Open
Around The Bend

EDIT: Smile and In My Tree are pretty awesome too

Pearl Jam's never done a bad album. I love all their stuff - Vitalogy, Yield, and Riot Act especially.

And yes, their live albums are wonderful - I hope I get the chance to see them play live someday, they have such a positive vibe in all their shows from what I've heard (and seen on their concert DVDs).

I clicked on this thread to tell everyone it was fake, but obviously I was beaten way before I did anything. :-p

Anyway, I guess I can tell you guys how happy I am that I'll probably be attending PJ's concert in Mexico D.F. on Dec. 9th. It'll be my first PJ concert ever and seeing as they're my favorite band in the whole world, it's going to be a really special event for me.

No Code is my Favorite PJ album, and Ive heard them all a million billion times.

It seems to be where alot of their earlier fans jump off, I guess because its a rather large departure from their prior albums, Red Mosquito is my favorite PJ song EVER!

Off He goess of that album is Gr8 too.

It'll be my first PJ concert ever and seeing as they're my favorite band in the whole world, it's going to be a really special event for me.

Congratulations, I understand completely! 10 years Ive loved them like no other band, and Ive yet to get areal opportunity to go see them live.

Having a kid with no babysitter in town is a DRAG.

Wah? Their setlists are always like this. The only difference is that they're not supporting a new album, so you get a healthier mix of everything. Just as an example, look at the Winnipeg setlist ... a couple b-sides and a couple covers.

01. betterman
02. hail, hail
03. corduroy
04. grievance
05. save you
06. given to fly
07. sad
08. not for you
09. daughter
10. wishlist
11. even flow
12. untitled
13. mfc
14. 1/2 full
15. immortality
16. lukin
17. jeremy
18. black
19. do the evolution

First Encore.._

20. in hiding
21. in my tree
22. crazy mary
23. alive
24. blood

Second Encore.._

25. indifference
26. smile
27. elderly woman...
28. fuckin' up
29. rockin' in the free world

Yeah, I got hooked on No Code for awhile a few summers ago. Played it all the time at work, heh. I'd have to say that Present Tense is probably one of my favourite live songs, if only for Mike's intro.

oh I'm not saying the shows are bad, I'm just saying that someone who thinks that from No Code on they're bad albums would be a little put off by the Canadian setlists. Personally I am loving this tour, I just wish I had the money to buy more of the shows.
