I’m sorry I haven’t had time to post more, but I’m fucking hooked on Shadow Hearts Covenant. It seems like no one wants to make a turn based RPG anymore. I’m not sure who decided that from now on some bullshit computer AI should control all the extra members of my party. Star Ocean, Tales of Symphonia and the upcoming FFXII all do it though. I’ve been depressed for months after playing FFXII at E3. I thought that I might never play an epic turn based RPG again. Thank Christ for Aruze and Midway. Yeah, this is how you get dresses for Gepetto's doll, and it serves as his form of elemental magic. There's also a "dress" based on the Emperor's New Clothes that is a secret reward for having a Shadow Hearts 1 save on your memory card in the Japanese version

Slight tangent: for damn near two or three years now it seemed as if I couldn't look at a forum about a Japanese RPG on GAF without 15-1500 trolls screaming how turn-based RPGS were TEH WORST SHIT EVAR and if you played them you were some kind of otaku-fag with your head up Japan's ass. Real men play GTA and blow away pedestrians.

I even remember a running joke at Penny Arcade about how Gabe hated turn-based RPGs and though they were stupid, and that "his guys" should be able to run around in real time.

Okay, so developers suddenly try this new thing in RPGs and it's the end of gaming, OMG. Including from Gabe.

There has got to be some massive and pre-coordinated practical joke going on here.

Well I'll chime in and say my hate of RT RPGs comes in that it takes away what I most love about RPGs big, flashy, honky spells, the animations, the effects, the summoning... that's what I got in to AD&D type stuff for oh so long ago(pen, paper, dice, yup). If I have a party I want control over the whole party... I don't want AI that MIGHT decide to focus on the same enemy I am...or MIGHT decide that my character is low enough on HP that it should heal me.. I want to decide whether during a battle I'm going to heal such and such with magic or an item, etc... I really like the Pseudo RT stuff that FFX used and I really like the battle engine of SH:C...

I prefer AI for my party, especially in games that allow you to create your own character. That's what i disliked about baldurs gate 1 and 2. I make my own character representing myself and want to play as him, but then the game goes and makes me be a bunch of other characters at the same time. That just ruins the role playing for me.

Funny, that's what I liked about the game so much.
