New RE4 PS2 video - 'Weapons trailer'

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but could anyone upload the death animation collection video?

It was posted a few times in the gargantuan RE4 Official thread, but all the links are down as of now.

I didn't download it at the time, as I was avoiding info on the game till I played it. Having finished it last month, I'd really appreciate if anyone could repost it.

wow, looking very good. they even got the framerate smooth in the huge area in the beginning of chapter 1-2. it had some slowdown during the E3 trailer.

it seen most area no dynamic lighting,no gun light, some downgrade texture and model..

block texture

if the area is big or many enemy at screen..they will change to downgrade model..

Yeah, after comparing the two videos it's pretty obvious they had to cut corners in order to get it running smoothly on the PS2. Not that it matters, since the PS2 version still looks good - I didn't even notice the bad texture and downgraded models until you posted the screengrabs - and offers more gameplay. I can't wait to see what they do with RE5 on the next-gen consoles.

The video lacks colours, it looks very dull but the PS2 version looks colourful in magazine scans. CapcomÂ’s video capturing device is screwed up.

Ah, I see the block texture. It seems like it's a mipmap that isn't being updated when zoomed in on (that is, they keep the low-res distance texture in place rather than swapping in the high-res texture).

I'm sure we'll find little tricks like that all over. If it comes down to small details like that, then we know Capcom has done a great job.

if you play it in 42" big screen&16:9.......i don't think you can't notice the problem..
yes ..it sure look good in 14" Monitor....

"if the area is big or many enemy at screen..they will change to downgrade model.." that might be a l.o.d. error. same with the textures because one out of the rest of the textures were like that

"if the area is small or just few enemy at screen..they with keep the good model.." or it could be different areas that caused this. it is an earily build after all

"GC version.....the enemy model is alltime keeping in great model" not sure about this since whenever you zoom in the screen blurs. for all we know the swap could be during the bluring.

When players took control of her in the GameCube Assignment Ada bonus quest, her outfit was restricted to more of a military look, due to the difficulty of being able to replicate her dress on the screen. But now, Kawata's favorite part of the PS2 version "is seeing Ada in action in her Chinese dress," he says. "In the GameCube version, the costume couldn't be seen in action as a playable feature because we thought it would be difficult to detail. However, I was extremely eager to make it happen because the style is so beautiful. I am very happy with the results our staff was able to produce."

[...]

"The main goal was definitely to develop and unfold a story that featured a main character, Ada," says Kawata. "It was very important to show the viewpoint of this mysterious character, who knows even more information than the player does. I think that people's curiosity about Ada will be peaked even further by playing Separate Ways."

[...]

Kawata estimates that 60% of the staff who worked on the GameCube version has carried over to work on the PS2 game. "Most of them were art designers," he notes. "Most of the planners and programmers for the PS2 version are different staff that joined the team for this project."

[...]

And there's still more we have yet to learn, with a reported two new boss fights in the main adventure and other extras sprinkled throughout.

good stuff.

True widescreen and superior dress. Hot damn!

Is it me or does it look cleaner than the GC ver when in motion? I'm seeing a lack of graininess that plagued the GC version.

I forget, where there these guys with glasses in the GC version?

I just played through the GC version, I didn't see any of them. That looks really...odd. Almost fake actually. Odd decision.

I assume that shot is from some of the new area/stages in the PS2 game? I haven't kept close tabs but Ada's extra mission has been expanded in this port IIRC so I assume the shots of her in her new outfit come from some new areas presumably somewhere on the island...

Yeah, I can't seem to remember a variation of the villagers looking like that. Looks like they added some new variations, huh, I wonder what other like extras like that are in the game.

Looks great. I'm impressed that the PS2 version turned out so well. Glad I got the GC version, though. I could not have waited an extra 9-10 months for such an awesome game. I might get this after a price drop for the extras. :)

I'm disappointed they didn't add light flashes when you shoot your guns, surely the PS2 can handle such simple effects, maybe they forgot to add it in?

That bad texture does stand out quite a bit in the screen you captured, but it's not going to ruin the game for me. Then again, I'm playing on a non-HDTV, no-frills 24" Sony WEGA. I guess I'm not hardcore enough, but even on my meager component set-up some PS2 games look like garbage.

At this point I doubt they'll add it. If it as simple as you think, they'd have put it in. Let's face it, the game's a port, and even with all the work they're putting into the gameplay it's still not the visual equal of the GC version.

I can't recall, but were they present on GC?

It can look really nifty when done right, even if the tech behind it isn't impressive. Devil May Cry did a fantastic job with the muzzle flash, for example.

Yeah, muzzle flashes are in the GC version. It may depend from the location to location as I didn't see it appear every single time he fires in the GC version, (but it's not there at all in the PS2 build the latest videos are from).

Uh, noone's beating you over the head to use those costumes if you don't like them.
