New Ridge Racer content available

The last time I checked, the additional BGMs (which are about 80 points each) are just selected tracks from Ridge Racer PSP. Too bad i already have the Ridge Racers soundtrack on my custom soundtracks..

so these are new? there's been new BGM and unlockables on marketplace for a while now. can someone who's played the game confirm if this is actually NEW content?

Yeah, I unlocked a bunch of class 1 cars I think already through the market place for free. Hopefully these are class 2 or something.

again, before you buy any of the rr psp songs, keep in mind that you can't select them from the pause menu, making them virtually useless. i'll download me some cars, though.
and probably buy disco ball if it's on there. :(

so you can't even select the songs you download? So why download them? Just to listen to from the dashboard?

you can select them before a race. but if you want to do a series of races without returning to the selection screen, you can only listen to a downloaded song in the first race. it's really irritating. oh, and you can't use these songs in custom soundtracks or listen to them in the dashboard either.

I planned on picking RR up after I finish NFS this weekend (hopefully), I have the PSP soundtrack on my PC so I will just listen to it from there.

i hate the way custom soundtracks work, so having the mp3s doesn't do me much good. oh well.

That is pretty much with every game though. That is something MS is going to have to help developers with. I mean, it works worse than with the XBOX 180. It is like just having a CD player playing in the room while you are playing.

Yeah, its pretty much identical to turning the music option in a game down, and turning a CD player on. Some games thats ok, but racing games could benefit from music playing at apropriate times.

Not used custom soundtracks much (not in 5.1 yet) That should definitly be a toggleable option.

Yeah and I hate that custom soundtracks don't play in 5.1 surround, only stereo. The original Xbox used to play custom soundtracks in surround sound.

What's wrong with the custom soundtracks? You people want the music to cut in and out with loadtimes or something? I've got no beef that I can listen to my music unfettered whilst keeping the sound effects intact.

1) Start a new song each race.
2) Allow forward track-advance, like some Xbox games.

This is a step backwards. The only advance is that almost every game supports the soundtracks. The actual functionality is limited compared to several Xbox games.

Fake surround on Xbox 1. It's just five-channel stereo.

Now, 360 will play real 5.1 WMA via USB.

Guide button lets you forward tracks just fine.

Yeah basically. I want the song to start when the race starts, stop when the race stops.

Also in NBA2k6, why can't I have my music playing in the arena like the 2k6 songs? It just plays my music through the game. I can put on some headphones and get the same effect. In the XBox version you could pick the songs, even pick what part of the song that plays in the arena. I would like the same functionality.

Yeah, but why should you need to do that crap? You didn't have to with the XBox. In Burnout you hit the white button and move to the next song in the soundtrack. The functionality has definitely taken a step back.

Games like Ridge Racer have unused buttons. Allow track advance on a button like right shoulder. Skip ahead when you hear a song that you aren't in the mood for. Screw using the guide button in the middle of a race.

That's Namco's problem and choice though. You still have to pause the game to change the RR6 tracks regardless, and yea the downloadable music debacle sucks.

Are you certain that Microsoft has provided an API call for track advance?

If so, I agree with you (though I'd love to see a TCR requiring that games provide a degree of user navigation over the soundtracks when the controls are available for it).

That's more of a reason to consider them IMO (not that I would actually buy them).

I f*cking HATE the custom soundtrack functionality that 360 offers. It feels no different from simply using some other external music player. I would much prefer it if they actually integrated this functionality into the game ala the original XBOX (though with device support like the 360 currently offers). It would have been nice if SOME developers were allowed to add such support to their games rather than allow the dashboard to handle it all.

Why not copy the songs you want to your 360 HD? You can create a custom playlist that way.

Whoah are you serious? So basically you're saying that you have limited access to your songs and cannot skip to the song you want, put the playlist on shuffle on the fly, forward or reverse the tracks while your playing? That is fucking stupid!

I guess I will have to sacrifice having the game's sound effects in 5.1 and connect both my Xbox audio cable as well as my mp3 player to my DJ mixer and blend them together like I've been doing for the past few years now.

Oh well I'm sure RR's 5.1 effects aren't that great anyway.

No, custom soundtracks on X360 is basically like having Winamp playing in the background. It won't properly integrate custom soundtracks into the game like Xbox (when you play a song, it'll keep playing regardless if you're loading a race, in the menu or actually racing). So the song doesnt stop playing when you finish a race

I dont know about the limited access part...what makes it limited? You can make a m3u playlist on your PC and make a playlist of what songs you want, then load it on the X360. You can play it in the order of the playlist or you can randomize it on the X360. But if you want to change songs, you have to go through the X360 guide and change it there rather than pushing a button in game to skip tracks. So you have to essential pause the game...or change songs during loading

as has been mentioned, i dislike that custom soundtracks play as if you're playing a cd in the background -- i want songs to start at the beginning of a race, end when i return to the menu, etc. i have a bunch of ridge racer music on my hd, but it's just unsatisfying to use.

This is great to see. Downloadable content should start flowing a lot more freely about now.

Wait, someone please tell me if it's gonna cause any problem with achievements if I download the free key to certain cars? Also, what if I already have the car.

Should I be hearing ANY warnings before doing this? Thanks.
