With Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace already added to the returning cast of Spider-Man 3, might we soon get more casting announcements?

Scooper 'The Calculator' tells us a rumor that in Spider-Man 3 you may see four villains! With that many, you would think that not all four could be major villains in the third installment, which may concentrate mostly on just one or two. We don't really know at this point what is going to happen.

So who are those nasty rogues? Sandman, Hobgoblin, Vulture and Venom.

We'll keep you updated if any of this is confirmed or debunked. Sam Raimi will start principal photography on Spider-Man 3 in January for a May 4, 2007 release.

4 Villians? Looks like the curse strikes again. No superhero movie shall survive past 2.

I'd hope vulture to be a minor villian. Maybe like the shocker in ultimate Spider-Man, who gets beat up in the first three panels, iirc. :lol

The other three are too big to just throw away like that , but maybe Hobgoblin will be "in the shadows"- not a direct threat until the end. I like the idea of more than one, but four is a bit too many.

Four would be too many considering Venom is one of them, you'd need a whole movie for him, even 2 for christ's sake. So many things you can do with him.

not if he's just one of Hobgoblin's henchmen. No backstory required!

You'll be exhausted by the time SM3 comes out if you believe every rumor that comes down the pike. "Its on the internet, so it must be teh truth!"

...

mmkay... let's say it IS true ... :) ....

A Spider-Man flick is the only flick where it just might work anyway! Hobgoblin/GG2 is all set up & ready to be used -- but not for the whole film. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry turns on Peter, hires whatever super-powered goons his labs can empower (like Sandman, Electro, Rhino, or Venom), and when these are defeated, he goes bonkers & becomes GG2 to polish off Spidey himself. There are all kinds of variations of this with more/less villains -- it DOES make sense for one mastermind to be pulling the strings behind multiple enemies -- and it doesn't make sense for Kingpin to be introduced. And if smartly written & filmed, such a predictable story could be pretty fun. But that isn't what they'll do anyway, just thinking aloud.

Who knows, most of these characters could show up as civilians- leaving us guessing who is the baddie in part 4.

That reminds me, there was a rumor about shooting 3 AND 4 together. Now 2 villians per film won't be so bad-would it? :D

It would be cool if they opened the first 10 minutes of the film with Spidey beating up Sandman or Vulture and sending him off to prison, just to show how much he's progressed and that 'supervillains' are now a more common occurence that he deals with on a regular basis.

That's about the only way they could do that many villains and get away with it.

And I thought Raimi said he wasn't going to cover Venom, at least not in the first 3, anyway.

I'd really like to see Venom, but I think that he would need a whole movie to himself. He deserves it. He's a pretty deep character. When I saw Parker's one armed proffessor in Spider-Man 2...I thought of The Lizard. Just a thought.

One day I'm buying a case of beer and sitting through that tripe for some fun, but I can't quite bring myself to do it just yet. Just the thought of what they did to Bane will make it worth it.

Save Venom for the crappy post Raimi movies.

He's smart to stay close to the comic's origins. We don't need the non-sense of magic costumes or extreme villains yet.

The RAIMI movies were crappy. They're too goofy. Macy Gray? Wasn't there some retarded song an Asian chick sang to the Spiderman theme when Spidey ditched the costume in the sequel? TERRIBLE

Shame on him for making Spider-man goofy. Nothing Stan Lee has ever done was goofy. Ever. :lol

I think Sandman would be the coolest character to be on film. The kind of effects they could play with would be dazzling. Actually scratch that, CG in Spider-Man movies kinda sucks.. but the POTENTIAL would be there.

Classic Spidey plot archetypes:

The Origin: Check
Goblin (or other baddie, like Venom) threatening loved ones: Check
Spidey decides to throw in the towel, then changes his mind: Check
Spidey runs a gauntlet of bad guys: ...

Draw your own conclusions

one super villian is enough you fucking stupid, greedy bastards! Why must these idiotic studios ruin a good thing by throwing super powered beings all over the place?? The public is not ready yet!

No, Sony wants to whore it out to at least 6 films. But it'll probably be the last Raimi/Maguire one.
