Not too keen on the huge mario thing, but the video on IGN which was posted today didn't look too bad.

Please Nintendo, just make it good...

I'd rather Mario and the enemies were sprite-based -- the low-fi polygons are painful on the eyes -- but LORD help me if I'm caught sneering at a *new 2D Mario* (HOLY FUCK!!), even one on the worthless ol' DS.

thats a big fucking Mario.

btw, thats TWO somewhat positive Nintendo related posts from Drinky Crow i've read so far today. Something is happening...im scared.

Where's the fucking art style? this seems to lack any of that "Nintendo personality".

But hell, it will probably be fun.

Post the Mario & Luigi screens too, some of them look fun.

This game looked to move really well in the mini-video we saw, god I hope they don't fuck it up. Dunno how two players control. Maybe one just follows the other until one dies, DKC style.

A new 2D Mario is pretty surreal, it hasn't really sunk in. This is the ultimate test to see if the spirit of Nintendo of old still burns.

The video looks promising, but the whole thing seems a bit "floaty" to me. It seems like it's a side effect of it going 3d, but the controls in the video @ IGN dont seem as tight as they were in the 2d Marios.

Yeah, I hope to hell this isn't a multiplayer focused game with only a smattering of levels. It NEEDS to have > 100 levels.

That video looks AWESOME. Guess the reason for the two characters is co-op play then, really don't see how it could be anything else after that.

Looks nice. It's been way too long since Nintendo made a 2D Mario platformer. Hopefully it can live up to the greatness of Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, although I expect Nintendo has forgotten a lot about making this sort of game in the past 15 years.

No, I just didn't have inflated expectations for ANY major hardware manufacturer going into this. I know what I want to see, and anything else positive is gravy. Sony knocked me dead with the PS3 demo reel; I'm excited about Oblivion for the 360; and while my contempt for the DS is no secret, the GBA Micro was a pleasant surprise. I have no interest in the Revolution, so it's ALL a win for me.

Don't worry, when it is fully confirmed that NST is primarily behind this the sneering can begin in earnest.

Indeed.

Four-player co-op is cool, too, if not overly realistic.

Alright, it looks like complete shit in screens

But the video made it look very fun. Wall jumping in a 2D Mario! I've wanted that for years.... well, I've wanted a 2D Mario -period- for years, but I always thought incorporating the wall jump would be rad.

2-player co-op would be fabulous, especially if it were running on wi-fi infrastructure. Anyone that tried out the 2p vs. mode in SMB DX would agree.

Most of the levels oin the video were from SMW
Weird... the stuff in these screens looks completely different from SMW.

I'm also surprised the name "New Super Mario Bros." is actually sticking. Maybe its sequel will be "Untitled Mario Project".

Wow, how come I'm the only one who thinks this looks bad?
I want a 2D mario as much as the next guy, but this game looks like it has no soul. I can't believe it still looks like that old E3 demo, I was sure it was all placeholder graphics.

Where are the damn smiling clouds at?

I completely agree.
It all just looks so... generic.

I think theres a catch though. most of the screens don't show a classic sort of platforming game that we're all used to.
