GC screens look like PSP ones these days, someone's eye can be put out with that anti-aa. Looks okay though.

Those are bad captures...But anyway, I picked up Spider-Man: Blue today, and I'm really excited about the Ultimate Spider-Man game. The only down side I see is that the infinite web slinging is back...But oh well it should still be a ton of fun.

Ah yeah, Spider-Man Blue is a nice one. I'd recommend picking up the fat Essential books aswell, they're black/white only but the best Spider-Man stories bar none.. I think there are 4 of 5 of those books, 30-40 issues per book. Great value.

I mean you can just shoot web into the sky. You don't actually shoot web onto the buildings and stuff realistically like you did in Spider-Man 2. Y

Wow that sucks. I loved the "real" webslinging in Spider-Man 2. One of my favorite features.

NO SALE!

Thanks Treyarch - FOR FUCKING IT UP!

What a bunch of dumbasses. Dumb it down trying to make more money. FUCK YOU Treyarch.

I dunno if it's a no sale for me but it definitely makes the game substantially less attractive. Blah.

Anybody know any confirmed villains besides Venom (who I guess is playable) and Rhino?

The absolute best part of Spider-Man 2 was the swinging physics. Without that - it's worthless to me. I am sooooo fucking pissed.

You know, the more I think about it the more I think I will probably pass as well for this reason unless the rogue gallery is reasonably cool.

Err, I thought people LOVED the Dreamcast VGA box. Most DC games looked just like these shots in terms of image quality when played on a standard PC monitor.

Oh, and due to the contents of my post...

So is Spider-Man 2 worth $20 if you've already played through Spider-Man 1, or is it more of the same? ($20 is what S2 is going for at Target these days, on GC.)

It's supposed to have the first appearance of ultimate Beetle. There is a pic in EGM, he looks like something from a japanese tv show:(

They also mention Electro.

Argh what! No Spider-man 2-style "real" webswinging?! NOOOOO!

That was the best shit ever.

Well if it's the first appearance of any Ultimate character I am probably doomed to buy it...I am completely addicted to the Ultimate comics.

::sigh:: Man I'll miss that sweet sweet webslinging though. Why in the hell would they do that?

Spider-Man 2 was a lot of fun IMO - far better than the original Spider-Man movie game.

The best part is the ability to go anywhere you want in New York. I think of Tony Hawk a lot in how you can control Spider-Man because it is very much like that type of gameplay. Go anywhere you want and do tricks. The challenges are fun to (races and trick races). The combat is so-so, but I just loved swooping around town. It was a great experience.

I'm gonna go buy Spider-Man 2 again I guess. I need my real web slinging. My two year old loves to watch too. It's a hoot.

Okay, I've gone through as many previews, impressions and videos as I could find and everything seems to indicate they'll be using the same webslinging system as Spider-Man 2. How did you come by this information Toy?

Maybe I'll get S2 then--I liked the first one, but it had its problems, and I ended up eBaying it as soon as I finished it (which didn't take too long). Screwing around Manhattan as Spider-Man might be worth $20 alone, though, if the webslinging is as convincing as the posters in this thread say it is.

It is. Spider-Man 2 is way, way better than Spider-Man: The Movie.

WAY better.

Wait. Am I the only one who thinks those trees look like complete ass? In terms of graphics, this game is taking a huge step backwards. It doesn't look very good at all.

Everybody calm down.

http://www.comixtreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17837

The city itself is a different Manhattan than the one found in the last Spider-Man game. Instead of the real city, you get the Ultimate Marvel version of it, complete with Ultimate Spider-Man landmarks like the Baxter Building and several others. The movement in the city is very similar to that found in the last game – but the look of the city is, as you might expect, more like a comic book. One major change I saw in the city that I thought was a good one was the trees in Central Park. In the last game they were so short, making webslinging very difficult to pull off with much grace. Not so here – the trees are plenty tall enough to swing through, a real improvement.

phewwwww....

That was mean ToyMachine. :(

I was just about to say you can clearly see spiderman swinging off a building at the very end of the trailer, looks like they even textured the webbing this time. Game looks great and it looks like its a pretty faithful conversion of the comics, that scene where spiderman & venom jump into eachother and fall to the ground is straight out of the comics.

Dr_Cogent said:
Well, what I read in EGM backed up ToyMachine IIRC. I hope EGM and ToyMachine are wrong.

After reading that there will not be any indoor missions whatsoever in the game it makes no sense to me at all that they would toss out what was a more or less universally beloved webslinging system. I'm going to lean towards the previews and videos that indicate they kept it.

But, if ToyMachine got this from EGM, I guess we can't burn him for spreading terrible lies...oh well. ;P

Um, I dont think EGM said that. I'll check when I get home.

Why would they do a free roaming game with the old swinging system...?

Unfortunately I'm sure I saw this mentioned in a gamespot E3 dev interview....its the ond infinite swing mechanic.

Just found a transcript of the article and yes, they did say that.

However, I'm reading from some other folks who claim to have spoken to Treyarch reps and were told the article was incorrect. Don't know if that's true or not, but watching that trailer and reading other previews that contradict the article just leads me to believe that EGM are...you know...

...a pack of idiots.

I watched the only dev interview for this game available on gamespot and nowhere in the interview did they say that. I'll go watch it again but I'm pretty sure on this.

edit: Yeah, he never even discusses the webslinging. I don't know where you got this from.

The only people who seem to think they reverted the webslinging would be the folks at EGM and given numerous statements and video to the contrary it seems safe to say that EGM is wrong.

Well, to further the fog, I remember seeing an interview on Electric Playground and the guy interviewed said the swinging had been simplified or some shit like that. What that means - not sure - but it makes me think it is indeed the infinite swinging bullshit.

Please let my worst fears about this game not be realized!

(shrug) I guess I'll just go back to not thinking about this game until it actually comes out. I saw it suggested somewhere that there might be an "Easy Mode" for the webslinging for people who had trouble with the Spider-Man 2 webslinging. Perhaps that is what is causing all this confusion.

That would be great. Cater to both camps. The pussies who can't hack the swinging and those that can.

Ultimate Spider-Man plays like Spider-Man 2, minus the fat.

Fat? What's the fat though? Did they expand on this? I will read the article when I have a chance.

Bacon said:
"Fat" is probably crap like the same useless missions over and over again just to progress in the game.

Yeah I read in a couple different places that the "on the street" missions in this game will be vastly improved.

Ugh, it's been made easier compared to Spider-man 2 but you don't just shoot web into the sky like the first couple Spider-man games. Where did you get your idea from?

How is it "easier"?

It was plenty easy already IMO. It just took a little time to gain the skill to become proficient at it. How could it have been made easier? What changed?

You've got to be a pretty bad gamer to not be able to get that system. Jump and swing to get into the air, swing and jump to get higher. Mastering all of the cool aerial tricks is another story, but the system it'self was pretty easy....until you got Central Park. God damn trees! GROW! :P

I'm fairly sure that EGM reported that the game is using the old swinging mechanics. Let me open the issue right next to me and browse it and see if I can find it.

Scroll up and read my quote from that comics site. They fixed the trees...woohoo! :D
