New version of PS3 E3 tech demos from PS Meeting

LOL at the end of duck demo :lol

Alfred Molina's skin is simply amazing in the demo. It's like the real thing.
I didn't remeber it to be so realistic in the E3 demo.

Unreal Engine is the same E3 demo with a few wireframe scenes.

I remember the Alfred Molina demo, none of my friends except a graphic designer loved that demo as much me. The light effects, especially with the skin and light shining through the ears is spectacular.

The eyetoy demo was fantastic with the physics and water in the cups beings threwn.

The Alfred Molina demo deserves props:

The way blemishes and scars (acne scars?) etc. become noticeable under different lighting..wow.

I think it's probably my favourite realtime tech demo ever. The skin is simply unbelievable :)

BTW, for those who didn't know, this is as much a demo of Cell as RSX. Cell is calculating the quite complex subsurface light scattering (under the skin) in realtime and passing that data to pixel shaders in RSX.

Looks cool and all... but why Alfred Molina?

Spiderman 2 theme. (PS3 font, Spidey Vs. Gran Turismo cars demo etc.)

That skin texture is unreal, but indicates I think partly where the jump in dev costs is going to come from, just how many maps total would be needed to give a texture, well, that kind of texture?

Have they confirmed that this is using the RSX? I thought the original was done before the RSX was even taped out.

I hope Silent Hill 5 uses this skin mapping, that way people can pull those shots up in 2009.

Based on this gen, I'll be using Silent Hill 6 shots...

Can't wait for that day!

To be honest, I would not be suprised to see Team Silent attempting to reach for detail levels on par with what we see here. Even if they could get within 50% of this demo, that would look fantastic.

Sorry, Cell + "whatever GPU is in the box now". So Cell + 6800 Ultra SLI or G70.

So the ps3 doesn't need that RSX<=>Cell connection to pull this off.

Presumably, which is all the better. Imagine what they can do with all that more bandwidth ;)

Something tells me this is less a bandwidth thing and more a computational thing. Although I've no idea how hard that was pushing the SPUs. Of course, the CPU was also non-final (the final will be 30% faster).

I'd like to see this level for SH5

I just like that the cannon balls tear open the cloth simulations on the boats. I'd like to see that demo on a larger scale.

That's not all that impressive. SH2-4 isn't really far behind that, except for geometry (ie the hair).

Hell, just add subsurface scattering to the existing SH2-4 models and you'd be just about set.

Looks like it improved a bit, as did the duckies. But it could also be the quality of the video from E3. Dammit, why doesn't Sony have all these vids ready in direct-feed? This is good press right here. This is the best demo they have IMO. I mean, that's as realistic as anything I've ever seen in realtime. PEACE.

Reminds me of the Radeon 8500 Rachel Demo

When the demo moved under the red lights, I swear that it looked real. The lighting change hid a lot of the imperfections that you notice under the pics displayed above. Definately do yourself a favor and watch that video.

Yeah, it is similar...though they are demonstrating entirely different things.

The difference is pretty massive, though.

No...no it doesn't. That was a skinning demo. The textures were low-res, the model considerably less detailed, and the lighting and accuracy of the skin not even close. But yes, it was a head demo too. ;) PEACE.

EDIT: Molina definitely needs some better hair though. :lol

wtf. How are you going to tell me what it does or doesn't remind me of?

I looked at the pictures and the first thing that came to mind was Rachel. Therefor, it reminded me of Rachel. I said nothing of technique or quality.

G-man doesn't agree, he's going nuts over your thoughtless comment! :D

G-man's not as good :P His skin lacks the translucency of Doc Oc's, among other things.

The eyes are the giveaway in the Molina demo, certainly (though under some of the lighting even they look nigh on perfect also). But it's only a relative thing, and eyes are difficult to get just right in any medium.

As if I expressed my opinion somewhere in my post? I just said G-man can't stand it.

You funny! :)

Since next-gen development is so expensive hopefully Sony will lend out virtual Molina to star in other people's games.

it'd be funny if we get a spiderman 2 pack in movie with PS3, except the movie is done in real time :P

To bad they axed the best scene from the E3 Molina demo in this new one. The one where he's saying the line from the movie. That right there looked just unreal. The lighting and everything was just perfect in that particular scene, more so than in scenes in this new demo.
