Nearly half of all U.S. adults with children plan to give video games as gifts this holiday season, according to a survey conducted by the trade group representing the video game industry and released on Monday.

In total, the Entertainment Software Association said, 47 percent of adults with children plan to give a video game as a gift, and 37 percent of Americans expect to either give or receive a video game as a gift this holiday.

The ESA represents the $10 billion U.S. video game industry, which expects to have its best holiday season ever this year.

The figure was up slightly from 2002, when 36 percent of people expected to give or receive a game as a gift, the ESA said. There was no comparable survey in 2003.

I for one am giving a few GCN games, an SP, and am going to be receiving a GCN myself. I'll believe that survey.

My kids won't be receiving any video games this year from us (or Santa) but I'll probably get a PS2 game or 2, like I do every year from friends.

I'm going in with my office and buying a family an Xbox with 4 games (ESPN NBA 2K5, EPSN NFL 2K5, Sonic Collection, and Crimson Skies) along with some clothes for Christmas. That's what the parents wanted to give the kids, but couldn't afford it.
