OK that kind of people are disgusting
Many people are comparing PS5 to PS3 but it's not the same case, while PS5 is a super unique and highly customize console it's not as hard and complicate for devs to deal with as PS3. PS5 is actually even easier than PS4 and also XSX, there is a reason on why SSD was the most requested feature from devs and why Sony put so much emphasis on it and all the stuffs around it, it will make things much smoother for devs, while the games will be much more impressive.
Many people think that XSX will be the lead console for next gen multiplat games because it's "easier" to develop in, well that's not true because PS5 should be even more easier and the devs themself seems to be much more excited about PS5 and SSD is the feature devs seems to be the most excited about, time will tell but i think lot of 3rd party devs may go for Lead PS5, and this is definitely going to be the case if PS5 is gonna be the console that will sell better. The only way most of games will be lead XSX imo is only if XSX will sell better than PS5. (Of course deals are gonna be made for some multiplat games here and there as usual like AC with XO or RDR2 with PS4)
PC market is shrinking, I don't know many people are using PC's and laptops except professionals and some gamers. You can even video edit 4K on iPad Pro now. Just a reality check:

Ok, we'll wait and see anyway. I'll drop it here.
It was estimated that by the end of 2017 there will have been 1.22 billion PC gamers worldwide, and this number is expected to further grow to 1.4 billion by 2021.
Just made this tweet and folks, listen to the video, it seems like John Linneman from Digital Foundry is saying TFLOPS on paper aren't that important and that it may not be as suggested on paper, this podcast just ended hours ago......I know this thread and the tweet that I made are gonna get a whole lot of COW SHIT STORM!!
But it is the truth.
Have you used Windows before? If not, I've been using it since 1996. Ask someone how he feels about it compared to Mac and Linux. Microsoft is dropping Windows and favoring Linux for their servers lately as well, and might even shift totally to Linux:
2001: Linux is cancer, says Microsoft. 2019: Hey friends, ah, can we join the official linux-distros mailing list, plz?
Windows giant cheered on by Linux Foundation as it seeks membership of private security-focused message boardwww.theregister.co.uk
They are a software-based company with some hardware work, Sony is a hardware-based company with some software work and superior gaming history.
By the way, they are not PC's, they're consoles, and I have a life and I'm humble.
What is this rational/reasonable shit doin' in here. GTFOi am user of Linux, Mac and Windows, and Windows, for me, is by far the most balanced system out of 3 (it is sure not my favourite), there are some unique use cases when Mac or Linux have advantages (that's why I use all of these os'es), but Windows is by far the best day-to-day os. Yes, it has a lot of flaws, and it can be annoying as hell.
btw. most of my devices are within apple ecosystem
Pathetic. I don't understand why the hell he is in every PS thread and hasn't been banned yet .
You will be able to, why not? But if you want to play older games, keep those consoles. I don't see a problem with that. People want a cheap new console but it has to play old games? You can't have a cookie and eat it at the same time. I've been dealing with retro hardware most of my life. If you want a retro hobby, learn how to buy smartly, fix and maintain your consoles. Old hardware isn't that fragile, it was made mostly before ROHS era so it won't break that quickly. It's also cheap in most cases as consoles are produced in millions.Whatever, but the important thing is to stop locking masterpieces behind generations or a pay wall.
I can't play Bloodborne on my PS5? Fuck that.
The thing is, most people buy a TV first to watch television and a console is the second or third option. I don't think 1080 TVs are that much cheaper now if you want something nice but if you already have one, why would you change if the only 4k content is Netflix and gaming? I mean, I bought my TV exactly when I switched to PS4 Pro and I have no interest in television but I'm not a norm. Same with Internet: why would you pay for 1 GiB if 200 MiB is enough? I used to pay for 600/60 but then I realized that I was wasting 20 EUR a month for nothing and downgraded to 300/30. Because you don't need that speed even if you're a demanding user. It's difficult to find a server to saturate such connection. And now, with everyone sitting at home, the whole infrastructure is even worse. I get 100-150 MiB/s during a workday. So I'd be wasting even more money. 1 GiB/s means you need a fibre directly to your socket so companies have to invest heavily in infrastructure. Right now there's no point in that, it'll come in a few years.Wow, man, I'm really shocked! Most homes around here at least have one 4K TV
It's a very popular misconception that open world games cannot look as good as other genres. It's not a problem with technology but rather with resources of a studio to create many different assets for an open-world game to look as good as its one-path counterpart. You're right about game logic and interactions with environment but it'd probably take no more than 10% of the power. The biggest trick here is there are no character models. Even in a first-person game you have a player model (except for a few walking sims) because you see your hands, a gun, etc. There are also other characters in games and those models take a lot of polygons, textures and animations. By the way, this demo is a narrow corridor example, just looks more open.I am agree with you in the part a complex game like a normal open world is almost impossible to looks like that in PS4 pro but
not in "simple" genres.
There are still 2 billion PCs, mostly at offices. You cannot do office work on an Ipad. And most of them run Windows because there's a lot of business software which doesn't run anywhere else. Microsoft has a tight grip on the OS market and office software which doesn't seem to be possible to change right now. But it doesn't mean they'll be fine in other markets, like consoles/hardware. Just see how they royally fucked Xbox One, first with Kinect, then with online DRM.PC market is shrinking, I don't know many people are using PC's and laptops except professionals and some gamers. You can even video edit 4K on iPad Pro now.

Linux and Windows for me. Mostly linux though and I use Ubuntu and Kali.
this is some next gen reaching, any links/sources for any of your statements or is this all a tale from your arse?
i've used to use Ubuntu and kali, now I have moved solely to kali (now via vm on my Mac but used to have dedicated thinkapad for it)l Ubuntu is a great os, IMO the most accessible Linux distro but it wasn't getting enough use in my household
Wow, man, I'm really shocked! Most homes around here at least have one 4K TV, although all channels are now either 1080p or 1080i with rare 4K channels (subscription), and our national Oman TV as I'm told is 4K-ready but it's still not cost efficient from a satellite perspective, I guess. And you get hundreds of free 1080p channels, no subscriptions. Very few are still 1080i but the lesser broadcast through an antenna is still around 540p I guess. I watch most of the content in 4K when available on youtube, but can't watch 4K@60fps smoothly because I only have 16Mbps ADSL, but fiber optics are being planted around my neighborhood now and should be ready by next June then I might upgrade to 4K netflix. The Sultan lately ordered all telecom companies to feed even remote and rural villages with internet, mostly ADSL+5G/4G at first then fiber-optics. Previously I thought 1Tbps is the norm in Germany like few years back. Here 1Gbps is still expensive at 150 OMR ($390/month)! Good for a big family and like 3 floors to share that juicy speed:
1080p looks better on 4K as well, and in general it's pretty cheap for casually watching TV. For example, this 55" 4K Android TV is only 120 OMR ($312 USD), saw it in person and it's really good:

Thanks for being spokeperson for entire worldBut most people want the 300$ next gen console to be DOA.
I don't want to sound mean but what is your daughter going to play on an Xbox console. Shooters, racers? Is she really into them? Why not a Switch with games like Animal Crossing. If I had children, a Nintendo console would be my first choice for them. Thanks for being spokeperson for entire world![]()
I won't say anybody what to think about Lockhart, because everybody has mind of it's own. Or i think. But for me Lockhart is and ideal solution for secondary console in household for my daughter. So if it's real, and if it will be around 300€, Microsoft has happy customer. Better to spend 800€ for two consoles than 1000€.
I thought about it too, but for now GamePass offers enough suitable content for her and i don't need to split my finances into two ecosystems. If i buy CTR on one console she can play it too with one purchase.I don't want to sound mean but what is your daughter going to play on an Xbox console. Shooters, racers? Is she really into them? If you'd have scrolled just a few more posts down...Where the hell is this from? Wow
Please explain how MS will reutilize XSX chips. How do they that?
I don't want a cheap console, so don't talk to me like I'm "people". There is this thing called life, where maybe I move from my house or even my country and I'm not bringing five or ten consoles with me. I moved 5 times in 5 years and in 2020 ain't bringing 200 devices for the same thing. And when you have 4 PS and 3 Xbox at least those consoles can be tanks as much as you want but statistically you have a lot of consoles and one of them can break. I already use emulators for arcade btw.You will be able to, why not? But if you want to play older games, keep those consoles. I don't see a problem with that. I also have a high-end OLED TV and I haven't watched a single second of TV on it. Don't plan on starting either. No TV connection needed.Well I can only speak about the bubble I live in, but from what I get is that not a lot of people don´t care about TVs. You can get 4K, 40 inch TVs for 250€ or you have those who go into the next electronic market and buy the cheapest and biggest TV that they can get ~500€ for 65 inch, 4K TV. Than there is also the trend that some people just don´t watch TV anymore. I am one of them,. I have cable but my TV isn´t hooked to the connection. I just don´t watch TV and I have an OLED TV. I just game on it and watch Netflix and Disney+ or sometimes the publich TV channels through their app. Also this is why we see a huge push from tv companies for launching their apps for smartphones and tablets and because a lot of young people don´t watch that much TV anymore. The classic TV in Germany is slowly phasing out.
avarage usage in min/day
Age 14-29:
TV 82 min (~cut in half in the last 10 years)
Internet (Youtube, Netflix, etc ) 201 min
Age 30-49:
TV 176 min
Internet (Youtube, Netflix, etc ) 91 min
Age 50+
TV 318 min
Internet (Youtube, Netflix, etc ) 35 min
The internet is doing fine. Of course you have a slow internet connection in rural areas and towns or sometimes in big towns. For me I have a 100Mbit/s connection and I could order 1000Mbit/s for 50€/m, but I don´t need it.
Yes, this was the last offtopic post![]()
Shouldn't they not care about their opposition at all this time and be partying and celebrating since the XSX is 12tf? I don't understand this. It's never enough for these types. That's both pathetic and creepy.
Both are stated to be custom RDNA 2, check the official specs. Is the Xbox Series X RDNA stated as RDNA 2?
Where as the PS5 is known as RDNA custom?
I have a follow up question depending on the answers.![]()
So there's a possibility both consoles have features yet to appear for RDNA 3.Both are stated to be custom RDNA 2, check the official specs.
First of all, you want to have a hobby, deal with it. Don't expect others to be willing to pay extra because you want something out of the ordinary. I don't need BC further than PS4, I'd do even without that (just keep my console) but selling it will be a nice bonus to get a few more games.I don't want a cheap console, so don't talk to me like I'm "people". There is this thing called life, where maybe I move from my house or even my country and I'm not bringing five or ten consoles with me. And when you have 4 PS and 3 Xbox at least those consoles can be tanks as much as you want but statistically you have a lot of consoles and one of them can break. I already use emulators for arcade btw.
And at this point price has nothing to do with BC, MS and Sony solutions do not uses hardware emulators, they think to reasonably compatible architectures so software emulation is easier, and that's fine (and such system even let them make money because without the discs you need to pay the emulated game directly on their store). I can't play all PS4 games at launch? Ok, but at the very least there is the commitment to reach that point some day. Again: do not let this go, it's all I ask.
This is because scattering around the history of videogames makes harder for people to enjoy and learn from them, comodity is important otherwise all this "learn stuff" argument wouldn't exist because everyone would play on PC with a lot more old games and emulators and fuck consoles, but no.
Probably PS3, PS2 and PS1 games (when and if PS1 games will arrive) will be only on Now forever, and that's fine also, it's another type of commitment regarding the preservation of the past, but let me play as much games natively as you can, not with streaming.
I don't expect anything, I would pay more to have more, in case it's BC or power, that's my take.First of all, you want to have a hobby, deal with it. Don't expect others to be willing to pay extra because you want something out of the ordinary. I don't need BC further than PS4, I'd do even without that (just keep my console) but selling it will be a nice bonus to get a few more games.
Second thing, you're wrong about software emulation. PS4 will be hardware emulated in almost 100% because staying with AMD architecture allows them to do it easily and without much added cost. Going further backwards isn't possible in hardware so for PS1/2/3 you're using an emulator. Of course Sony would like you to pay them to use that emulator in their ecosystem but you can still have older hardware and use it, nobody forbids you that. You have a problem with convenience? Well, it's your problem only, nobody else's, sorry.
Third thing: is 4000+ PS4 games confirmed by Sony to be BC at launch not enough for you? I think it's a great number, probably 95% or more of the whole PS4 library.
And finally, I'd leave history to historians, that is people who'll take care of archiving, preserving and cataloguing digital heritage for future generations. In fact, I know a lot of people who do that as a hobby or even as a job. I see no reason to sacrifice modern features of consoles so everyone should have that possibility in a single box. Most people don't want to play old games or just don't have time for that.
I think I might have misunderstood you because the way you word things is difficult to follow at times. No offence, just an observation. I hope you get your Demon Souls remake by Bluebyte as it's rumoured and enjoy it[snip]
It's probably my English, I still don't have proper native emulation for the language lol no offence for me.I think I might have misunderstood you because the way you word things is difficult to follow at times. Maybe. But because of NDAs, they actually couldn't say if they had a PS5 devkit. Last time a dev simply acknowledged having PS5 devkits at the office (the poor codemaster guy), he got erased from the internet.
I don't know why some devs are so reckless, they should just stay silent as the rest of them.I don't think that applies now as other devs are talking about working on them now? The NDAs have slightly loosened I think (they do usually after/around GDC time).
As for the poor Codemasters guy my take was when his Tweet was post here and Era and it went viral he panicked and deleted his Twitter account. I doubt he got fired.

Actually yeah, I never played Demon's Souls because it's fucking locked only on PS3 or emulators on PCs (I've a low end laptop) so here we are. Let's see what this remake is.
From this week up until June's gonna be![]()

Xbox Series X trumps PS5 in power stakes, according to former PlayStation developer
Shots fired across the PS5's bows, as industry veteran says Sony were "caught off guard" by Xbox Series Xwww.t3.com
i know this was discussed but it is interesting to see how different outlets are picking up this story and running with it
Matt Evans said:Chris Grannell is a developer who spent years contributing to games such as the futuristic racing game series WipEout and the smash hit Horizon: Zero Dawn.
250$ does sound too low, but XSS has a lot of areas where MS can save on BOM. My guess is:Lockhart has a lot of expensive fixed costs
APU with Zen 2 and 20CUs
16GB RAM with less bandwidth
SSD with perhaps a bit less capacity
it will be at least 300.
250 seems like a pipe dream unless MS wants to absorb a massive loss
Turning off parts of the GPU in order to make a lower-tier GPU from parts that didn't pass certification is extremely common, but there is a limit to how far you can push it. Turning off 4 CUs is very common and even 8 CUs happen here and there, but Lockheart's GPU will have to be at least half the CU count the XSX has if XSS is 4TF. When you turn off 4 CUs you improve yields considerably, but turning off 28 CUs (and probably a full SE and at least 128-bit worth of memory controllers) is a huge silicon waste. That's why the 5500 is a whole new chip, not a 5700XT with more CU disabled. The same way they are going to sell 56CU GPU with just 52 of them active, the same way AMD sells faulty 5700XT chips as regular 5700 cards, the same eay Intel/AMD/Nvidia are selling their lower tier products, and so on.
road to PS5, cerny talked about that. Not the dude you are demanding for sources but this is kind of "common sense is source enough" kind of deal, or should be.
I mean, the PS3 vs PS5 argument is stupid as fuck.
PS3 -> CELL were powerful yet really difficult to program, memory architecture were difficult also, GPU were kind of shitty and NVIDIA screwed Sony
PS5 -> Engineered to be simple, fast and easy to dev games (Cerny + many devs as sources), doesn't have "really fast but really hard to code stuff". SSD on PS5 isnt anything difficult for devs if it is what Cerny told to us, 3D audio isnt that difficult either with right tools and they dont have to use 3D if they dont want to and thats about it. And high clock speeds strategy should be fine, Sony is hardware company after all.
Only morons look at PS5 and find a way to say "lol CELL all again" when there is literally nothing comparable to difficulties of PS3 to be seen.
And those that shout out these crazy claims should give the solid evidence, not the other way around. Consoles arent even out yet and some think that they know by looking at PS5 specs that it is somehow difficult, yet most devs and presentations say that it is the opposite.
So on conclusion this "ps5 -> cell" is just another desperate xbot fanatic strategy because they just cant handle reality of PS5 being already much popular on polls even with less GPU power.
It just doesnt make any sense that Sony would engineer a console that is fucking difficult to code to again, and nothing in specs / reveal so far indicates that it would be anything but really easy system to dev with APIs and tech to make it easy to use SSD and other features without having to tinker with them on low level
Seriously. What's wrong with this guy.
This ex ps dev may be on drugs while posting. Or could have been in a car crash with no helmet. All sorts of possibilities.Seriously. What's wrong with this guy.

Yes, it's envy. That much is clear. Let's stop going off-topic though.Their behavior makes it look like what they secretly want is for the Xbox to be the PlayStation.
I got the real high-end hardware and still play 90% of the time on PlayStation jfl.Their behavior makes it look like what they secretly want is for the Xbox to be the PlayStation.
We all need to take a page from Nintendo fans. The games are the reason we buy these things, otherwise we are just broke ass discount gamers who can't afford to buy the real high end hardware (3000$ PC).
To be fair someone did the humiliation in 2013 lol.Butthurt fanboys who were humiliated in 2013 and all along the last 7 years, for them it's not enough for Xbox to be 'better', PlayStation must fail and hard. And yes, it's pathetic and creepy, these guys need a shrink.
