Next Generation GTA - What would you like to see on it?

I'm talking more about things that were not possible this gen mainly.

I'd have to go with:

- Game remembers where everything is. If you park a car somewhere, it will stay there no matter where you go on the map.

- All building enterable, break in or otherwise.

- Licensed cars as well as fictional.

- Ability to add REAL radio stations with shoutcast or whatever as well as the fake stations.

- You can customize bought homes with furniture you steal from other homes (TVs, VCRs etc)

- You can send cronies to do your job for you but if they go instead of you, you risk at failing your mission, corruption, betrayal..

- You can form your own gangs by convincing people to join you. Rival gang members can be good for you (they know the inside scoops) but it can also backfire on you (distrust, betrayal).

- Said gang members can have special abilities (asians = stealth, afro-americans = better at running and other stereotypes).

- You can get cops to be on your side.

- Rolling hubcabs when you crash.

- Winter conditions

Interaction with real life online individuals, gangs and clans. Killing, trading, stealing, carjacking, buying, sellling....

I want it to be at least 3 times the size of the actual earth.

An extension of this but I think it'd be cool for destruction to get fixed in realtime, rather than just reseting when you leave the area long enough for the memory to dump it. So causing a massive pile up would result in traffic jams etc. while the road was being cleared, busted cars being towed, etc.

- the ability to create your own character.

- destructable city like mercenaries.

- greatly expand upon the asset buying (san andreas was a huge dissapointment in this regard).

- 1 large dense city rather than 3 small ones with boring countryside between them.

- different seasons in the game depending on what time of the year (if you play the game during the winter, it will be winter in the game).

Create-A-Character.

Have a choice of joining different gangs or crime syndicates, not just for certain missions like in Vice City where you did stuff for the Cubans, Haitians etc., but unscripted, where if you join the Yakuza for example, you will control a certain area and Yakuza troops, until you decide to leave them, and if you leave them on a bad note(e.g join their rivals), they will become your enemy.

Seasonal changes according to the console's internal clock/calendar.

More crazy weapons like throwing knives, bow & arrows, machine gun guitar cases.

1. cell shaded graphics in the style of the opening flash screens... i don't want realism in GTA

2. drive in theaters playing super low budget 70's gangster movies and bottom of the barrel horror flicks. (some of these could be licensed very cheaply, even cheaper than a lot of the music and it would be a very cool addition)

3. a retry from last check point option when you fail a mission.

4. more dynamic mission design.. not so scripted. the way the mission turns out should be based on your performance not on pre scripted events.

5. drasticly improved on foot controls with lots of ways to control your character

6. highly advanced AI

7. expanded character customization options (appearence and more in-depth skills)

edit//

8. a more usefull manual aim of some kind (i'm thinking something like RE4)

The best one mentioned so far, IMO. I've wished for this at least six million times while playing SA, especially when I fail out in the middle of the countryside, several minutes away from the mission icon.

They actually already have something like this in GTASA when using the rifle. It goes in behind CJ's shoulder and zooms in a little. You can even walk while doing it.

Doesn't trip skip do that?

Online play is really all I really want in the next one.

Trip skip helps if you've got to drive a long way at the mission's beginning, yeah, but I'm talking about after you fail a mission and you'd like to try again -- if you're way off in the countryside and the mission icon is, say, at Sweet's house, that's a lot of traveling to do.

Unless you can somehow trip skip that part, too, in which case I'm officially an idiot.

Whatever they add, I don't want the gameworld getting any bigger than GTASA. Parts of the game (vegas, mostly) felt like it was sliding towards True Crime in terms of "big city, no point".

I dunno, I'd probably just have been happier if some of the countryside had been cut out. It's cool that they were able to make this huge world, but a lot of it felt like Morrowind with the exploration sucked out of it.

Oh, bring back the hidden packages. The spraypaint/photo shit was terrible.

More customization.

1) You can customize each and every vehicle you buy. You can upgrade its engine, color, and add all different sort s of little aesthetically pleasing things to it.

2) You can buy a house and put furniture in it. Put a dog in the backyard. Put a basketball hoop up. If you leave it neglected long enough, the grass will start getting nasty.

3) Allowed to have any facial hair you want without having it attached to a certain haircut.

trip skip only works on a few missions, and when it works it only saves you from driving.. you still have to redo objectives and you still have to return to the mission starting point.... it wouldn't be as much of a problem if the missions didn't have like a bajillion tedious objectives and tons of scripted events. if i accomplish something, i want it to stay accomplished.

i actually DONT want online play. i'm afraid it will become too much of a focus. single player games should stay focused on single player... i don't want all the next gen games to be multiplayer online frag fests.

Cel shading is gaming poison. So is bloom lighting

a next gen cell shaded game, that looked like a living comic book with a giant free roam world and over the top gore would be so cool. the ultra realism of next gen graphics combined with the crazy shit that happens in GTA... it might lose it's comedic overtone and just become depraved... i would still play it and probably relish it, but i like the current vibe. if the hardware can handle it, the in game graphics should look like the cover art.

i think it would be really fun to play with detailed locational damage in GTA. imagine thugs hopping on one foot, and shooting the guns out of enemies hands!

Hitman 2's switchable 3rd person to 1st person camera. That'd work so well in gta. And since gta 4 may be online, it would help out the game a lot.

Interaction with real life online individuals, gangs and clans. Killing, trading, stealing, carjacking, buying, sellling....
GTA MMO, the one type of online game I would pay for.

Online and back in the 80s... that's all I want.
Yeah, I wish Rockstar would make a new separate division specific for sequels to previous games. Rockstar Milk-It, I'd be their cheapest and dirtiest consumer whore.

A 70’s setting complete with Travolta Dancing Mini game.
Yes! I am just dying for a 70's GTA now that we've done the 90's and 80's.

2. drive in theaters playing super low budget 70's gangster movies and bottom of the barrel horror flicks. (some of these could be licensed very cheaply, even cheaper than a lot of the music and it would be a very cool addition)
I was thinking about this for a long time. If they utilized the cutscene technology in a special way you'd be able to watch tv and go see movies without them having to fill the disc with a bunch of actual real life footage. Can you imagine how awesome it would have been if in Vice you could go back to your pad and see that "Yuppie and the Alien" show, or go to a theatre in GTA3 and see "Saturday Night Beaver"? Something like this would be the one thing to make me truly feel like I'm a part of GTA's world.

GTA is probably the most prominent current gen game that could be improved by leaps and bounds next generation, whereas most other titles would simply see a graphics boost.

I vote for cel-shading, like the covers of the games. Online would be cool too, as would making every building accessible, etc.

I also think that would look cool.

For all those saying online play, what exactly do you want out of online play? Multiplayer/Co-op would be cool via LAN/online play, but I think a MMO environment would be kinda lame. Mercenaries sounds like it'd be better suited for that sort of thing, not GTA.

But how 'bout Cell shading AND bloom lighting?! Eh? Eeeh? And for good measure, throw in some bump mapping just to really screw things up. :)

Create-A-Character.
That would be a great feature. They should get the create a character from Tiger Woods golf -- by far the best create a character mode I've seen in a game. I can't even imagine how good it will look on next gen systems.

-Aiming/control that doesn't suck.

-Graphics that don't have annoying motion blur, crappy textures, aren't too dark,or with annoying sun glare that takes up the ENTIRE SCREEN. I seriously can't stand this crap. How does not being able to see the screen add to the immersion factor????

-Cops that actually act like cops, IE when i run a red light at 100 miles per hour right in front of them THEY ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

-A CITY LAYOUT THAT IS EITHER LESS REALISTIC IN IT'S LAYOUT OR ONE THAT HAS FUCKING STREET SIGNS SO I DON'T SPEND 15 MINUTES TRYING TO FIND A SOME SIMPLE BUILDING. After the 10th time of trying to get to my house but finding that none of the streets intersect in an easy intuitive way(I figured this was to make it more like a real city rather than just a square grid of perpendicular houses and streets). OH WAIT, but I guess the developers forgot about a little something that helps us humans find our way in the maze of a imperfectly designed big city. STREET SIGNS, DOH!

Yeah, if they fix that stuff I won't immediately take the game back to blockbuster the next day.

- I'd like to see a family element. Get married, have kids and then have to protect them from your lifestyle.

- One City. I would rather have one city or town, but make everything count. Every person has needs wants and desires. Create a sense of guilt when you murder a hooker and then see her daughter forced on the streets becuase of this. All the great gangster movies and shows have characters who are real. Tony Soprano, Don Corleno, etc, felt sympathy, anger, joy. Grand Theft Auto is too cartoon imo, and i'd like to see a change.

-Customization of vehicles. Paint jobs, rims, engines, all left to the player. Become rich enough and you could have a garage that rivals Jay Leno's

-Setting: The near future might be fun. But not to far that it becomes another scifi game. Maybe I'Robot, without the robots.

-Fully render buildings. Every building, every room. But maybe thats to difficult to acomplish. I want to try to chases through backyards and living rooms we see in cop shows. Startled housewife cooking, kids playing in the living room, etc.

thats the funny thing about the GTA series... it seems like every time i play one, i have a ton of fun (at least until i burn out), but all i can think about is all the ways they need to improve it :lol

it's like the games are just brimming with potential and a zillion different kinds of gameplay, but everything is just imperfect enough to make me wish they had done it differently.

Quick saving at any point.

create-a-character, or at least have multiple people to play as, including women.

KOTOR style conversations, where you can choose what to say and how the story flows.

I think GTA series is at a point where it's not with something new they must come up but improve the features the game already have.

Better graphics, revamp the controls and detail it more, make the new GTSSA like eat/train/date more detailed and influent.
Same lenght, not more than 3 city; detail the envirronement more instead.

If there's place for completely new stuff, i would like to grow a gang and recruit/train people. I would like to dispatch them on tasks too. We could customise "our base" and customise our gang car from head to toes.

-- One big, detailed city, with some surrounding countryside. San Andreas was spread too thin IMO.

-- Major upgrade the engine. Next gen we should finally be able to have tons of cars and peds on screen at once, with better AI and physics. Damage to the environment would be great, and I liked the suggestion for real-time repair work too.

-- More detailed "in-car" viewpoint. I'd like to see the dash, the hood, and I'd like to control my character's viewpoint with the right analog. It could be really cool if done right. For example I'd like to be able to look at the rear-view mirror and see what's behind me, rather than looking back. I'd like to be able to glance around, rather than looking around in 90 degree increments.

-- An original soundtrack and a present day setting.

-- Bring back rampages and hidden packages!

This is EXACTLY what I want, plus Xellos's post. Also less ticky tacky bonus shit, like the basketball... playing thing etc.

A return to Europe might be no bad thing at all. Some of my friends were talking about the possibilities for a GTA set in Rome or something like that.

I'd like to see randomnly generated cities and new randomnly generated missions - once you finish with one, you can generate another. The first part is possible (I read a paper some time ago on urban terrain generation which was pretty cool), the second part (the missions) would be much much harder. You didn't say what generation we were talking about, right? ;)

on the other hand it might be boring after a while. even i never played san andreas to 100%, because i wasnt anymore interested in all this submission stuff.

DIDN"T READ ANY OF THIS.....

ok, my question is, they set themselves up after San Andreas.

all im wondering is, after something of that size, how can they pull that off come next gen. i totally don't expect any of that size, with decent graphics.

i don't see it happening, and well, im expecting this guys to do something totally different.

in any case, Godfather = meh.
