... As many of you know, league star Sean Taylor is missing after Miami-Dade County declared him a person of interest of interested in an assault case. Now we don't know if he is a witness, victim or suspect. Some have speculated he is dead.

So if that's true, do the Redskins get his cap space back?

If Sean Taylor were to die, the Skins would get some sort of cap relief. Part of the CBA deals with this, but if I remember correctly, even though it seems cold, the amount of cap money returned would be based on if his death were brought on by his own actions.

But I doubt the NFL would fight much over the amount. I don't think the salary cap implications were much talked about when Korey Stringer died, but maybe some Vikings fans could chime in (if there are any on this board).

So let's say a disgruntled fan were to kill Mark Brunell, would we get his cap space back too?

No cap relief just like when the vikings lost cory stringer. The remaining part of his signing bonus will accelerate against this years cap they will probably take a cap hit. This cap hit would be off set somewhat by him not having a base salary to worry about.

For what it's worth, Bobby Phills' contract stayed on the books for years after his death with the Hornets. Not the same sport, but I believe the NBA only modified the signing bonus stuff like what the above poster mentioned with Korey Stringer.
