NGPC?

The End

I've been thinking about picking up a NGPC lately, other than Cardfighter's Clash and Match of the Millenium, what's worthwile?

I can get one for $30 new, or $47 with Pac-Man, King of Fighters R-2, Neo Turf Masters (green), Samurai Shodown 2, Metal Slug 1st Mission, and Fatal Fury First Contact, so the bundle seems like a no-brainer.

Match of the Millenium is SNK vs. Capcom, right? Yeah, that one's excellent.

Don't stop with just the first Metal Slug, either, make sure to pick up the second one as well, they're both excellent. (I'm a little upset that a 3rd one was in the works, but canned when SNK pulled NGPC support out of the US. Apparently a SNK vs. Capcom sequel was in the works, too.)

Sonic Pocket Adventure is sort of a retro remix (familiar art assets, but the level layouts are completely new), so you might find that amusing.

There was also some mech game I heard was great, but didn't see US release... Falselei, was it?

I never got any of the RPGs, aside from the CFC games. I hear Biomoter Unitron is a decent RPG, if you are pressed for one. You have a pretty good start with the bundle. I'd add Metal Slug 2, Sonic, and Baseball Stars. I spent a good amount of time with those three. Puzzle Bobble is good as well, but that was my only handheld version of the game.

I can find most of those on Ebay for $5-10, although there seems to be more copies of the SNK version of CFC than the Capcom version of CFC floating around.

The version of CFC doesn't matter, you still won't get all cards unless you trade between them. As for Gals Fighters, it's a fairly loose and weird game without the solid feeling of Fatal Fury, KoF or SvC (which all use the same engine).

But really, only the SvC games (MotM and CFC) are real must-haves since they're exclusive to the system.

I'll probably get the bundle, both CFC's (i'm not the only one with a NGPC), MotM and Faselei right off the bat.

The NGPC remains my favorite handheld. Awsome little system with the best joystick ever. Here's my recommendations:

Card Fighters Clash - the reason to own an NGPC. Outstanding card game (and I'm not a big fan of card games or SNK/Capcom fighting game universes)

Match of the Millenium - best fighter on the system

Fatal Fury First Contact, King of Fighters R-2, Last Blade, Samurai Shodown 2 - all great fighters. Gals' Fighters wasn't very good.

Sonic Pocket Adventure - a remix of Sonic 2

Neo Turf Masters, Dynamite Slugger - fun golf and baseball games

Metal Slug 1 or 2 - the second one is the best IMO

Faselei! - this is the best RPG on the system. I have Ogre Battle, but have barely touched it so I can't comment on it. Dark Arms, Biomotor Unitron, and the Dive Alert games are decent RPGs, but nothing special.

If you really get into the NGPC, check out a backlighting solution. Makes a world of difference.

For some reason, I really liked the Soccer game in a brain-dead sort of way.

I have an NGPC, but here's something I never knew: the batteries last up to 40 hours

Is this true? If so, wow.
It's the figure SNK gave but it's not true. From my (limited) anecdotal experience it's more like 20-25 hours.

I loved the NGPC, especially the stick. It was perfect for fighters which the system has plenty of. They're kinda outdated by now though.

I'm probably treading old ground though, but...

Cardfighter Clash remains my favorite game for the system, and I wish there would be a follow up to it for either the DS or the PSP.

The Metal Slugs were quite good too, and I spent quite a bit of time with the golf game.

I really like pocket tennis. Its probably the only NeoGeo game I play actually.

I have Metal Slug, and King of Fighters R-2 and eh.. some more game i never play.

Funny thing was that they sold the Neogeo pocket here for $19,99 so i ordered one
with king of fighters.
I got the package, opened it and wtf!. They had shipped a NeoGeo Pocket Color to me,
which was selling for $79 at the time, and KOF R2 :D
So i ordered pocket tennis, metal slug etc and another NGP... but this time i got the NGP
instead :/
Well, i have one of both now, and the only anoying thing is that they use different kinds of batterys, but i only play on my NGPC anyway :)

The tennis game is fun at first....until you realize how ridiculously easy it is :/ Winning 6-0 6-0 without conceding any points at all doesn't make the game last very long.

Ganbare Neopokekun
Tamagochi parody with lots of minigames that is also a recap of the evolution of videogames. Parodies of classic games such as Xevious, Star Wars (the Atari vector game), Kungfu Master, Ghost n Goblins, Bomberman, Dragon Quest, etc.

Card Fighters Clash
As everybody already said, a must have. Once you've sunk many hours into it try to track down Card Fighters Clash 2. It never got an english release but if you know how to play the first one you should be able to make your way through it (with a card translation faq for the new cards)

Snk vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium
One of the best portable fighters you can get. Some nice mini games to.

Magical Drop Pocket
Best puzzle game on the ngpc if you ask me and also the best portable version of Magical Drop.

Delta Warp
Another good puzzle game, somewhat overlooked.

Faselei
What Sacnoth did before Shadow Hearts. Excellent SRPG.

Metal Slug 1st & 2nd Mission

Sonic Pocket Adventure
Has anyone manage to find all the picture pieces?

Last Blade
Portable version of Last Blade 1 & 2

Gals Fighters
The fastest fighting game on the ngpc. Iori in drag.

Yes it's true, they last a really long time.

But is there a lot of Japanese text? I've wanted to try that game for a while

hehe. you know what i mean.
well, i guess it's the contrast level or something, but the GBC screen is alot easier to see than the GBA screen, and that's what the NGPC screen is comparable to...

also, i liked gals fighter... moreso than kof and ff, but not as much as lb and ss!

No there is hardly any text. You get a page of text describing the controls at the start of each mini game but those are easy to figure out anyway.

Damn. Neopokekun is going to set me back $40.

I agree, it's one of the better portable soccer games. It's got some nice touches here and there.

Gotta love the awesome power ups in there, like Clown Pants.

Holy crap what a coincidence... I dreamt that I was playing Card Fighters Clash on the NGPC last night.

Damnit I should've bought it when I was in Japan :(
