Where is the Xenon pics?

Where are the pickets and strikers? Oh wait they are just losers who need multimillion dollar contracts to play in empty stadiums while everyone else watches NASCAR.

Interesting that all the images feature Vincent Lecavalier. I'm guessing he's their poster boy. Wonder if Martin St. Louis will make a return as 2k Sports cover athlete.

Yeah it's official.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 5, 2005 – Tampa Bay Lightning All-Star center Vincent Lecavalier has signed with Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world’s leading interactive software company, to be the cover athlete and spokesman for its EA SPORTS™ branded NHL® 06 game. The highly skilled assistant captain of the Lightning is the perfect choice for the 14th season of EA’s NHL franchise as shooting and scoring have never been so much fun.

With NHL® 06 players can score like a superstar, express themselves through their shooting style with the new EA SPORTS Skill Stick and light the lamp with highlight reel moves such as spinoramas, toe drags, bat-ins, and between-the-legs shots. Classic deke control adds to the arsenal of moves allowing maneuvers around defensemen before snapping off dangerous shots that can ripple the twine and knock the water bottle off the net.

“I am very excited about being a member of the EA SPORTS team,” Lecavalier said. “I grew up playing EA SPORTS games and to be a part of NHL® 06 now is a great honor.”

Lecavalier, 25, already has become one of the most decorated young stars in the NHL. Following the 2003-04 NHL season, Lecavalier led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they prevailed in seven games. Just three months later he was named the Most Valuable Player as Team Canada won the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. He was the first overall selection in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

NHL® 06 was developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, B.C., and will be available on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, the Nintendo GameCube and PC this fall. Screenshots of NHL® 06 can be found at http://info.ea.com.

Honestly the pictures would look better if there were like 100 people in the stands with "WE LOVE YOU NHL!" while the echo's of the puck and the swearing sounds were turned up. :lol

I read an article a few months back that stated Reebok had come up with a design for hockey uniforms that will replace the standard that we've come accustomed to. They're going for a more "sleak and form fitting" look (whatever that's supposed to mean). Perhaps it would be best that EA, and 2k for that matter, hold out for the unveiling of those new designs before beginning development on another hockey game.

About the only way you will see the NHL next year.. looks like the previous version. But wait, I thought EA was original these days? I must be confused..

You'll see the NHL next year, that I'm confident of. What I'm not confident of is EA's ability to make a hockey game that actually plays decent. Give me a real sim, none of that arcade bullshit. Can't wait to see what Sega Sports have in store for us. Hopefully they've fixed all of the bugs that plagued last years installment.

Dear EA,

NHL videogame fans no longer give a rat's ass about your game. Thanks for taking a great series and flushing it down the toilet.

Yours truly,

Everyone who made Sega's game a better seller than your POS last year

Or they could wait for the fucking lockout to end...

They should make a game based on European Hockey Leagues instead. Or throw in some random NHL stars in the next Tiger Woods game, since that's probably what some of them are doing right now. :lol

Off-topic, but are any of you hockey fans actually watching the World Championship that's being played right now? Or did you stop caring about hockey completely? :P
