A 2 page article that finally reveals what the hell they have been doing all this time with the game.

They said that they kept every feature in tact that was in the current gen versions, and added a new feature called crease control where you can play as the goalie (a mini-game feature comes up on every shot). Added rule changes, and all the rookies into the game. GO SIDNEY and OVECHKIN! Tweaked AI for the new rule changes.

The ice looks outstanding. I'm still holding judgement on the players... I hope that they polished up the presentation from the current gen.

Looks like I'll be jumping back on this games bandwagon for next gen with a copy at launch.

I don't know if it looks as hot as the NBA2k6 stuff does, but it definetely looks pretty good and is a big jump from this gens stuff.

So now comes a barage of questions for those who have NHL 2k6...

What do you hope they corrected from the current version?
How is the penalty frequency in the game. Any double minors, majors or injuries?
Are games realistic in your opinion?
Is it hard to score in the game?
What do you think of the enforcer system? Is the right analog feature set still in where you can move it and hook a player, spear a player, slash a player?

I hope the put a little time into improving the fighting system in this game...

I've only played a bit of it so far, and have mainly stuck to playing International games just to get a feel for the gameplay as the rosters are terribly outdated (too lazy to get some updates made available on the web for modded Xboxes).

I hope they fixed a few bugs...one being that faceoffs take forever to get started sometimes (it was in last year's version too), and one time the CPU had a penalty shot against me. He over-skated the puck. :P

Penalty frequency is realistic considering the new rules, but I've yet to see a double minor, major or any injury. Perhaps if I started a season I'd see some?

Games are pretty realistic in scores, chances, shots, etc.

It's not that hard to score. I'm playing in Hall of Famer and you can get a good variety of goals. Some garbage, some slaps that are deflected, and some slaps coming down the wing. It's very varied! If you put a lot of pressure, you can get a goal. Keep the puck in, keep it cycling and pounce on your rebounds. It feels great because the more effort you put the more likely it is you'll score.

Enforcer system is alright. You can kind of target star players like Modano on the US team and intimidate him so that he doesn't have boost, making him less of a factor in the game. It's a pretty interesting feature that tries to capture the psychology of the game. Cons? It's a red circle underneath the guy, sometimes confusing players when people are playing multiplayer, as the human player would have a red hollow circle.

Yes you still have the right analog stick feature. Be careful refs are calling a lot of things though :).

There are 3 big improvements to this game, which are:
1) The ability to skate backwards/hover with the puck. So if you have the puck and you're in the opponent's corner, press L and your player will turn his back to the boards and hover there. You can move him in all directions, but he's facing the same direction. It's EXCELLENT for powerplays and sometimes trying to take control and set up plays behind the net.
2) Icon passing. Works beautifully during powerplays and moving the puck up ice. It's very useful because of course this year you can pass up ice a lot more.
3) Goalie animations. Goalies not only look better in their animations, but behave far more realistically. It changes the way you play defense, because if you're killing a penalty and you're goalie makes 2 great saves against a shot and rebound, you just want to clear the puck the side to allow the goalie to get back up.

There is also a feature to control the goalie and to use the right analog stick to make a save yourself. Pretty fun to use during penalty shots, and useful during gameplay if you want to pass it up across 2 lines for a good scoring chance, but I never used it during play because I know I'd probably let it in. So I don't consider it as important as the other improvements.

Because of those improvements, it's hard to go back to any previous iteration from a gameplay perspective. Commentating is not that great, presentation is worse, and I'm not a fan of the visuals as much as 2K4 or 2K5.

There were some KEY animation improvements for the players though. You'll see less backhand one timers where the player isn't even looking towards the net, for example.

At least it has that going for it, unlike some other games...

Yea, I've had a few injuries in my season. Penalties are pretty rare, though I'm sure I could play with the sliders more to get them realistic.
