He's been on "The Hotlist" lately doing NFL analysis and the man seems spot-on. He doesn't bring any ego to the table (*cough*Salisbury/Smith*cough*) yet isn't boring like some other commentators (*cough*Aldridge/Hradek*cough*).

I would kill to see an NFL show in the vein of NFL Live (or whatever the show was last year with Suzy Kolber and Jaws etc) with him, Eric Allen, Merril Hodge, and perhaps a Trey Wingo or somebody to play host. Something with actual football ANALYSIS instead of the BS ego-posturing and 'guy who ran with the ball for the TD did some obvious things right' highlight commentary crap that guys like Salisbury and Michael Irvin wholesale endorse.

I guess I'm just so sick of the general sensationalist mongoloid direction that sports commentary has been headed recently that it fills me with joy when I see somebody on air who is insightful AND professional at the same time.

i agree to an extent. Sure Salisbury and IRvin are annoying as fuck, but i just can't get into NFL Live. Kolber, Hodge and Jaws are all more likable than the morons on Gameday or countdown, but that show is just too hardcore for me. I can't understand why football fans give a shit about how many steps Peyton Manning should/shouldn't take when he drops back, or the intricacies of the Raven 3-4 defense. When Jaws or Hodge bust out the telestrator and start going into super slowmo footage of plays, i damn near fall asleep. It just seems more like the kind of stuff coaches should be going over with their players, not the home audience.

I like Jaws a whole lot. Irvin can get annoying, but I think you need someone like him around. Tom Jackson is good too. Fuck Salisbury though. CFL joker who couldn't cut it in the NFL thinks he knows it all.

I FUCKING LOVE THAT SHIT!! I would MUCH rather watch real breakdown of the playcalling, strategy, and execution, than watch Salisbury pick the best and worst play of the featured game and just state what obviously went right and wrong.

I remember last year about 3 games into the season watching Merril Hodge do a breakdwon of how the Panthers were running a lot of counter plays (showing exactly how the D took the bait) as well as setting up bootlegs. It was really insightful, but the real payoff was watching them in the playoffs execute those exact strategies to succeed. It just made the games more enjoyable to watch when you're given that in-depth look as to how different teams utilize their personnel.

I understand that it's not exactly necessary to know in order to appreciate football, but for someone like me who follows the league and even has my own little strategies as to how to play the game (videogames of course), it makes me appreciate the games just that much more.

I haven't seen Qadry, but his brother was absolutely horrible on college coverage last year.

And while we're trying to kick Michael Irvin's stupid ass off television, did anybody else see his wide receiver list? Jerry Rice(der), Andre Reed(...huh?), MICHAEL IRVIN?!?

He put himself on the list, and only behind a guy who shouldn't have been there anyway. And then, to defend him, one of the other analysts on the show said "Only three receivers in the NFL now have more career receptions than Irvin"...Great. So three current receivers have had better careers than Irvin, on top of those who are destined to have better careers. So only taking into account currently active players, Irvin is about 8th on the list of wideouts. Yet he puts himself at third all time.

Fucking assclown.

Oh, and actual analysis is far better than what more announcers on television give. I'll take Jaws and Hoge over Salisbury and Irvin any time. Have I mentioned that Irvin should never be allowed on television? How about last week when the idiot walked onto the Sportscenter set, live television, and not only brought his cell phone but left it on? Michael Irvin should be put under house arrest just so that I don't have to hear from him any more.

Jaws is pretty good but Hoge is a complete moron. Every year his picks are some of the worst anywhere. How many times can you have the redskins winning the division? How can you claim they are "still better than the eagles". He picked them this year along with the patriots not wining their division and the eagles not making the playoffs. Not to mention the fact that he just blatantly lies, like when he said the championship 49ers teams all lead the league in rushing.

Agreed. mary hodge is an idiot, along with schlereth. Sailsbury is more tolerable to me now, than he was in his first year there. Jaws is still the fuckin man!

I love Edge nfl matchup, its great stuff. Very intriguing as ned mentioned. It's especially interesting to see them break down some of the rams pass plays. Martz does some crazy shit with his offense that you just wont notice during the normal flow of a game.

Schelerth is the worst. I swear, he has to read some kind of "Football announcer cliches for Dummies" book every morning when he wakes up. i don't know why so many networks hire these mindless meatheads to do football commentary. Just because they used to play doesn't mean they know what the fuck they are talking about. (Schlereth and Salisbury, im looking in your direction...)

I was thinking the same thing, actually. She looks so much better now than she did 14 years ago. Someone's had some work. Her face isn't as horse-like either.
