Out of respect, they should halt production of Star Treks Discovery and Picard.....for good :P

She ever get a cameo in those shows? Seems like STD for sure should have. Trying to remember if she had a voice cameo in ST:lower Decks.

Aside from illnesses, her last years were filled with elder abuse problems very similar to what Stan Lee went though, so anything like that wouldn't have happened.

Right. She was suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's in the last few years. So guest starring on anything wasn't an option.

All the woke, performative bullshit artists that exist in our entertainment industry today should look long and hard at who Nichelle Nichols was, and what she did. Because that really is how you fucking do it.

RIP.

Yeah, she walked the walk and didn't just talk the talk. At one point she wanted to quit the show but MLK asked her to reconsider so she stayed.

Indeed. MLK told her how much her character meant to him and his kids to see a black woman as a positive lead character in a major show. She was a huge influence on astronaut Mae Jemison

A real bad ass bitch.

The reason I say that is because you have to see her in Truck Turner. In that movie, her character runs a brothel, has a bad ass attitude, and walks around throwing the N word (which was typical of 70s blaxploitation movies like Truck Turner). All while wearing an orange outfit with no bra, and looking hot as fuck.

Rest in peace, Nichelle.

I fear Koenig will be next, he's had heart problems.

That will leave mortal enemies Shatner and Takei to fight to the death like in Amok Time.
It's quite frankly amazing Shatner is still kicking given how big he's been for decades but maybe it's just that dogged Canadian resilience or something

The problem with growing up with legends like the original cast of Star Trek & TNG, Star Wars and many others actors, Arnold, Stallone, Christopher Lloyd, De Niro ect.
You live to see them pass away ☹️

RIP Nichelle.

Whoopi Goldberg mentioned her influence, too. If there was no Uhura we probably don't get Guinan.

RIP.
That makes no damn sense. There were 2 other black actors and like 3 female bridge crew on TNG already. Guinan was hardly a ground breaking civil rights role, she was basically a mystic negro trope.

She was influenced by Nichols by a kid seeing her on TV. I think she wanted to do the show just because she was a Star Trek fan. I'll have to look for the interview I saw.

Whoopi has told a story about seeing "a black woman on television and she ain't no maid!" For a little black girl at that time, yeah, it probably had a huge impact on what she thought she could do or become in life.

Maybe Guinan would've still existed as something else but the character was what she was in part because young Whoopi saw Uhura on TV as a child.

Big fan of the original series, what a beautiful lady.

I will never be prepared for William Shatner. I'm a mess even thinking about it.

RIP to a legend of the screen.

I was never a huge Star Trek fan, but even I know how much ground she broke in that role. It didn't hurt she was also absolutely gorgeous while perming the role as well.

She's the one involved with the first interracial kiss on screen right? RIP madam.
She was but i'm always surprised how that kiss is used as turning poiint and a landmark thing. Only because in the actual episode both Kirk and uhura are being mind controlled and they are forced to kiss against their will, which kind of defeats the purpose if you get me.

It was a show set hundreds of years in the future and in spaaaaace, do you think the particulars of the plot matter?

'Sides, I think the brouhaha was over black and white actors kissing. Remender, this wasn't far from the time parents had to be shown sleeping in seperate beds.

RIP Uhura. Your English to English translation skills were the best in the galaxy.

Nichelle was an unsung trailblazer.

You misunderstood.

Nichelle Nichols inspired Whoopi Goldberg that she could be more than "the maid" on TV. She could be a lead or THE lead in a show or movie. She was such a fan that when she asked to be on the show, TNG created Guinan just for her!

His point is correct: if there were no Lt. Uhura (who was a lead), there would be no Guinan.
