Nightdive Studios CEO would love to see Eternal Darkness get re-released - currently chasing No One Lives Forever

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

During QuakeCon 2025, Nightdive Studios had the pleasure of revealing its latest project alongside id Software, Bethesda, Raven Software, and Microsoft. With another in the books following the release of System Shock 2 Remastered and other solid projects this year, eyes are on the future for what Nightdive does next. What could that be? Well, we started by asking CEO, Stephen Kick, and VP of Business Development, Larry Kuperman, what their remaining bucket list projects were. A few answers were shared, but one that stood out was Eternal Darkness, which is high up on Kick's list.

We got to talk with Kuperman and Kick about their current dream projects during a QuakeCon 2025 interview. It was there that we asked Kick not only where Nightdive goes from here, but what he and Kuperman themselves would like to pursue. It should come as no surprise that they agreed they're still chasing No One Lives Forever, but then Kick shared an interesting further choice.

[Eternal Darkness] has been kind of locked behind the GameCube/Nintendo wall all this time, and it's something I would personally love to see get re-released.

Stephen Kick is referring to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, which is a 2002 horror game released by Silicon Knights exclusively on the GameCube. To this day, it remains solely on that platform. What's more, it would probably take quite some effort to remaster or re-release because of many features of the game that comprised its horror elements, such as playing as if it was turning down your TV's volume or turning off the console.

Nonetheless, if anyone would be capable of bringing a game like Eternal Darkness to new audiences, Nightdive is on a short list of developers that could pull it off. Be sure to check out the full interview and our Nightdive Studios topic for more news and features.

NOLF and NOLF2 were games I never got to enjoy. Heard nothing but good things, so would be keen for a remaster for modern machines.

It's a shame that so many games from Monolith Productions are stuck in limbo: NOLF 1&2, Aliens vs Predator 2, Claw, Get Medieval, Gruntz, Sanity: Aiken's Artifact...

We're counting on you, Nightdive. Good luck and never give up!

if they could release NOLF, NOLF 2, and Contract JACK it'd be a miracle and I'd give them all my money
You do know you can get these games online and run without issues on modern HW including the steam deck? Theres even upscaled 4k texture packs. Id much rather see them work on something thats way too complicated to get running or needs a proper graphical upgrade.

Hands down my favorite studio
Sure, we had to wait a long ass time on SS remake but they always deliver. Best remasters in the game.
