WHO DEY!?
Saw this on slashdot, this is f'n sweet:

from the mixing-it-up dept.
alset_tech writes "Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) has released the new single from NIN's upcoming album as a GarageBand file for fan remixes. Though by no means the first time a major-label artist has released a track to the public for remix, this is the first time such a project has been as open to the common user. The repercussions to 'traditional' IP views in music could be beneficial to all. Note that the license agreement does not allow commercial use of the included sounds. From the download text: 'What I'm giving you in this file is the actual multi-track audio session for 'the hand that feeds' in GarageBand format. This is the entire thing bounced over from the actual Pro Tools session we recorded it into. I imported and converted the tracks into AppleLoop format so the size would be reasonable and the tempo flexible.'"

Didn't Beck do something similar, only with a different audio type? For Mixed Business? I know this says it's the first time it's been done like this, but...

Regardless, that's amazing. I'm going to give it a whirl, probably.

Trent also did this when The Fragile was released for the song The Big Comedown, but it was a piece of software you downloaded that used shockwave audio.

Do you know any way to get this file? The Big Come Down is one of my favourite songs and I can't find this file (archive.org doesn't load the flash files of nin.com :( ).

Thank you so much! Listening to the separate tracks is really cool. :)
By the way, did anyone else have problems downloading the file? I have downloaded a lot of files from yousendit.com , but this was the first time a file randomly stopped transfering after 0.2 - 1.5 MB in Opera (it finally worked with Net Transport).

Yes, it froze halfway in Firefox. :(

some of my yousendit file sends have stopped lately, like the program thinks the download is finished and says 'complete' when its half the file.

Too bad I don't have iLife '05. I think I'll upgrade to it when I buy Tiger.

You don't need '05 -- I say this with absolute certainty since I have '04 and I've been playing with it all day.

I came in here expecting NINtendo fanboys that were also Mac zealots. I'm severely disappointed.

WHO DEY!?
I just did my own. I tried to work with a lot of the existing riffs and elements. I'm way too embarassed to post it though. It's just so cool that they did this.

ah come on, share.

#142 - not bad, like a buildup. all you need it a break at the end, something to end the buildup.

#134 - I like this one better, especially the fuzz.

I also did OUTFOXED, #178. All three of them were done in less than 2 hours. I know I should invest more time in creating a perfect one (or a least, making one of a decent quality), but I haven't had the chance to invest that much... Maybe this weekend, things will be different...

Thanks for the constructive comments! There are so many submissions on ETS than nobody took the time to write anything about my songs...
